Job Description:
Hitachi Rail STS USA, Inc., headquartered in Pittsburgh, PA, seeks a Senior System Engineer to be responsible for the overall system integration in turnkey projects to meet the requirements imposed by the contracts for Tender or Backlog Projects.
This position is for a roving employee who will be working in unanticipated locations throughout the United States. The employee will have to relocate, but travel is not required from any particular location.
Accountabilities
Duties include:
(1) identifying, managing and fulfilling the system and functional requirements for the entire life cycle of the electrical engineering project (design and testing);
(2) managing the project interfaces among the electrical subsystems and external interfaces according to the project scope of work;
(3) delivering the system electrical engineering technical documents of the project on time, on budget, on quality, and the execution of the verification activities of system integration documents according to the Verification and Validation (V&V) Plan;
(4) technical delivery of the project subsystems in accordance with schedule, budget and quality;
(5) implementing adequate and effective technical electrical engineering solutions (e.g., interfaces with customer);
(6) prioritization and monitoring of Engineering Design status, and execution of tasks within functional areas that includes engineering and engineering support activities;
(7) leading work packet Project Monitoring and Control activities including maintaining schedule, CTC, MPR updates, meeting minutes, risk register, and change orders; and
(8) ensuring the timely and effective performance of electrical system integration tests.
Required Skills/ Knowledge
Must have experience with:
(1) designing, testing and validating train control systems;
(2) defining and managing project interfaces internally and externally;
(3) preparing Interface Control Design Documents (ICDD);
(4) creating design requirements;
(5) creating interface documentation;
(6) generating subsystem design documents;
(7) conducting power calculations;
(8) designing cable assemblies;
(9) creating electrical schematics, technical specifications, engineering reports, and equipment installation manual;
(10) creating and conducting FAT (factory acceptance testing) and PICO (post-installation check out) test procedures;
(11) performing system troubleshooting for enforcements and anomalous events;
(12) integrating applicable codes and standards (AREMA, IEEE and CENELEC);
(13) decomposition of customer requirements;
(14) utilizing DOORS to manage customer requirements; and
(15) utilizing the V-Model to close out and verify requirements.
Education/Qualifications
Must have:
(1) a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronics Engineering
plus
(2) Five (5) years of experience in a systems engineering or hardware design position in or for the railway transportation industry
Languages
(1) English Proficiency
In accordance with the DOT’s FRA and FTA programs, Hitachi’s substance screening program tests pre-employment candidates and current employees, as required for safety-sensitive positions.
