Job Description Summary

Systems engineering is a cross-functional engineering discipline centered on an approach, mindset, and process. All activities that consider both the business and the technical needs of the customers with the goal of providing a quality product that meets the users needs. The discipline that executes a robust process of design, creation, and optimization of systems, consisting of identification and quantification of system requirements, creation of alternate system design concepts, performance of design trade studies, selection and implementation of the best designs and verification that the design is properly integrated and executed. Process that proceeds from concept to production to operation.
Impacts departmental operations and responsible for planning/execution. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. Some judgment may be required but this is typically with guidance.

As our new system engineer, you will join our team Advanced Imaging Technologies team which is responsible for the design of the acquisition, processing, and presentation of data and images – from patient to screen. As part of the Innovation organization we identify, evaluate, and implement novel imaging techniques and we specify and design systems and platforms that carry them. To do so, we stay current with the latest research in medical imaging, and latest development in hardware and software technology. We actively work together with the marketing and clinical teams to identify user needs and market trends. We seek feedback from our customers via our sales organization, and we implement prototypes and new products together with our colleagues from engineering – hardware, software, mechanics, user experience to name a few.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead the innovation, development and implementation of novel signal and image processing algorithms to support ultrasound imaging and surgical navigation technologies.
  • Be the architect of new products and features.
  • Participate in the research, design, development, and integration of new ultrasound systems and transducers.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to define user clinical needs. Translate those needs into technical specifications and requirements applicable to the signal and imaging pipelines.
  • Participate in prototyping projects during advanced technology development phase.
  • Participate in clinical human and animal imaging studies for assessment and testing of new technologies and products.

Required Qualifications

You bring a relevant technical degree – biomedical engineering, physics, acoustics, data science, electronics, or software development. The key to be successful in this position is to be curious and willing to learn, to have personal drive and motivation, and passion for what you do.

You have:

  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. in engineering, physical sciences, data sciences, or computer sciences.
  • Followed with the latest technological developments in your field.
  • Knowledge of signal and image processing.
  • Proficiency in one of the following programming languages: Python, C++.
  • Knowledge of medical imaging and/or radiology is desired, but not a must.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal.
  • Experience GPU programming is desired.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems. Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs. Established project management skills.
