Job Summary:  The Senior Supervisor of Creative Design is responsible for the creative vision and concept development of store design project formats, leading with blend of art, architecture, and technical comprehension. Help cross-functional teams (comprised of internal business stakeholders and external agencies) navigate the development and creation and generate innovative solutions that amplify convenience, simplify interactions, and leverage efficiencies of our current and future offers to deepen engagement with customers – ultimately, creating lasting value.

Principal Duties:

  • Conceive and implement concepts, guidelines and strategies in various creative projects related to Wawa’s brand as it related to the store design environment balancing sometime competing objectives of style, constructability and cost.
  • Manage the overall creative design process for all new stores, remodels and renovations, formats additions, roll outs and special projects.   Oversee creation of designs and drawings as related to the branding and design elements that integrate and or create the physical retail space.
  • Develop and manage the growth and evolution of our “Wawa Store Design Brand Book”; Continually stay on top of trends and new developments in online, print and experiential media to produce fresh experiences and create benchmarking opportunities with best-in-class applications.
  • Lead the design process to deliver new concepts formats and designs. Work cross functionally to corral operational and offer requirements in a cohesive, efficient retail application with an eye to design and cost. Demonstrate high-levels of creativity, problem solving, operational knowledge, and work under pressure to meet tight deadlines with the ability to lead by example and inspire team members
  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of the “Wawa Store Design Brand Book” to institute and document store design standards. a The Design Brand Book is a living library of high-quality design pallettes, visual materials and standards components that can be utilized in all building applications and execution of site adapts.
  • Share responsibility with planning to shape strategic branding initiatives in collaboration with Marketing, People Team and Real Estate.
  • Assign creative teams best suited for each project based on ability and workload.
  • Own innovation regarding store design architectural, fixture and merchandising elements while working cross functionally with Real Estate, Marketing and Advertising.
  • Create a fixture vision plan working with Marketing including but not limited to, front end development, shelving and the attributes of temporary and permanent retail fixturing inside the store.
  • Develop design concepts and solutions based on creative briefs and Wawa’s business strategies.
  • Provide oversight for the design of store layouts for new store, remodels and special projects. Oversee the collaboration with internal and external partners to design and test various store layouts and future concepts including new prototypes, remodels and existing stores that can efficiently support high volumes while further strengthening the customer’s perception of Wawa’s brand experience.
  • Collaborate, communicate, and negotiate with internal and external partners including marketing/brand companies, architecture firms, and customer insights firms to research ideas and concepts that support our operating goals as well as our vision.
  • Provide overall direction and support for team and monitor and assess individual work in accordance with high standards of excellence. Provide feedback, coaching, support, opportunities for development, complete performance appraisals, take corrective action when appropriate, and participate in hiring decisions.
  • Provide creative leadership for format development activities.

Essential Functions:

Basic Qualifications:

  • 7–10 years of experience in retail design, architecture, or environmental branding.
  • 3+ years managing creative or design teams.
  • Strong proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, Revit, AutoCAD, Enscape, and Photoshop.
  • Demonstrated portfolio of retail environments, brand spaces, and concept development.
  • Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally with Real Estate, Marketing, and Operations.
  • Architectural education or license preferred
  • Focus on customer experience and the ability to lead related initiatives
  • Previous track record required in interior design, construction, or value engineering
  • Strong understanding of materials, finishes, fixtures and equipment, and construction methods
  • Proven track record driving outcomes with internal and external stakeholders
