Boston Dynamics is seeking a Team Lead within the Technical Field Application Engineering team to serve as the Head of Technical Execution. This team is responsible for delivering high-quality, site-level integrations across Spot, Stretch, and future platforms. Technical FAE operates as a generalist engineering function, ensuring Boston Dynamics products are reliably and scalably integrated in real-world environments. Within this model, the Execution Team functions as the front line, ensuring precision in field integrations while continuously channeling real-world insights back to internal Product, Engineering, and Go-To-Market teams.
This leader will champion standardization, remove integration bottlenecks, and elevate the team’s ability to execute across products, applications, and customer environments. They will work with peers and leadership to act as a driver of multiple aspects of the overall customer experience and technical system acceptance.
This role directly supports the Technical FAE mission of turning Boston Dynamics products into scalable operational systems by driving reliable, repeatable integrations across customer environments and enabling customers and partners through high-quality execution and knowledge transfer. Furthermore, the leader serves as the connective tissue between field operations and internal teams, ultimately supporting go-to-market success and long-term product maturity. This leader will be responsible for making technical process-level decisions on how to use our products with various customer operations and differing business vertical use cases. This role has multiple growth paths into sales engineering leadership, customer success management, strategic applications engineering, or product management.
Key Responsibilities:
Integration Execution Leadership
Own end-to-end execution of site-level integrations across Spot, Stretch, and Atlas
Ensure integrations meet technical, operational, and customer success criteria
Lead complex deployments, escalations, and multi-system integrations across environments
Drive consistency in execution quality across customers, applications, and regions
Team Leadership and Development
Manage and develop a team of generalist FAEs capable of integrating across all BD products
Establish clear expectations for technical depth, ownership, and customer impact
Coach engineers from P1 to P3 across troubleshooting, system thinking, and customer engagement
Build a team that can operate independently while maintaining a high bar for execution
Bottleneck Identification and Resolution
Identify recurring integration friction points across workflows, tooling, and product gaps
Drive resolution through process standardization, playbooks, and collaboration with adjacent teams
Partner with Playbook, Tools & Solutions, and Core Engineering teams with the technical field applications engineering org, to eliminate inefficiencies
Reduce variability in integration outcomes and improve predictability at scale
Field Feedback and Product Influence
Translate field insights into structured feedback loops with Product and Engineering
Ensure all escalations include first-pass log analysis and actionable technical context
Contribute to product gap identification and prioritization across Spot and Stretch
Act as a key voice representing customer and operational realities
Cross-Functional Integration
Work closely with Integration Project Management, Strategic FAE, GSS, and CSM teams
Ensure smooth handoffs across pre-sales, integration, and post-SAT phases
Support customer operational success through alignment with support and service teams
Influence broader CSI processes through execution insights
Operational Excellence and Scale
Improve integration speed, quality, and repeatability across accounts
Support initiatives such as FAE-led installations, asset readiness, and site preparation standards
Contribute to scalable integration models that reduce dependency on on-site execution
Align team execution with CSI business goals around efficiency, scaling, and partner enablement
Core Competencies
Systems Integration Mastery: Ability to understand and execute complex, multi-layered system integrations across robotics, software, networking, and customer environments. Think end-to-end, not component-level.
Technical Problem Solving & Root Cause Analysis: Ability to break down ambiguous field issues, drive first-pass log analysis, and push toward permanent fixes, not temporary workarounds.
Execution Excellence Under Ambiguity: Operate effectively in unstructured environments where requirements evolve, constraints shift, and timelines are tight. Delivers outcomes, not activity.
Bottleneck Identification & Resolution: Recognizes recurring friction across integrations and drives structural fixes through process, tooling, or product feedback. Focus is on eliminating repeat problems.
Cross-Product Technical Depth: Comfort operating across Spot, Stretch, Atlas, and adjacent systems. Not a specialist mindset. Capable of context switching and integrating across platforms.
Field-to-Product Translation: Ability to convert real-world operational issues into clear, actionable inputs for product, engineering, and GTM teams. Strong signal generation, not noise.
Team Leadership & Talent Development: Builds high-performing generalist engineers. Coaches across technical depth, ownership, and customer engagement. Raises the bar without over-managing.
Customer-Centric Systems Thinking: Understands customer workflows, business objectives, and operational realities. Aligns technical execution with customer value, not just technical success.
Cross-Functional Influence: Works effectively with Product, Engineering, Project Management, Global Service & Support, and Customer Success Managers, without formal authority. Drives alignment through clarity and credibility.
Operational Scaling Mindset: Designs for repeatability, not heroics. Focuses on standardization, playbooks, and enablement to reduce dependency on direct FAE involvement.
You Must Have
Education: A Bachelor’s in Software, Robotics, or Mechatronics Engineering is preferred. A master’s is not required, but will be weighted against years of experience.
Experience: Minimum 5 years’ direct relevant experience working in fast-paced technology integration.
Management/Leadership: 1-2 years of experience in direct report management or 4+ years of leading teams or projects through indirect management.
Technical Skills: Experience using various operating systems and issue tracking systems (JIRA).
Team Focus: A positive attitude and passion for career mentoring and supporting your team in bringing our products into production.
Adaptability: Ability to context switch, digest information, and align with cross-functional organizations, both internal and external, to deliver our products into production on time and on budget.
Communication: Strong Communication skills in both spoken and written form.
We Value
Operational Adaptability: Proven comfort in refining and optimizing processes to ensure global scalability and consistent performance across diverse sites.
Technical Versatility: Ability to leverage CAD for site planning, navigate enterprise networking (VLANs/VPNs) during setup, and utilize Python or C++ APIs to customize robotic solutions and collaborate with technical stakeholders.
Resilience & Autonomy: Comfort navigating the ambiguity of early-stage product deployments and the ability to build structure where none exists.
Go-To-Market Instinct: The ability to recognize how a successful technical integration can unlock broader strategic impact and account expansion.
Industrial Domain Expertise: Familiarity with specialized workflows in sectors like large-scale manufacturing and logistics.
Location & Workplace
Travel: Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally, typically up to 50% of the time, with potential for periods of up to 75% travel for candidates not based out of HQ, based on strategic business needs.
