Senior Scientist – Structured Decision-Making (SDM) Quantitative Fish Biologist

About the Opportunity
ICF is growing! We’re looking for a Senior Scientist with expertise in structured decision-making, quantitative fisheries biology, and advanced statistical modeling. Join our team to lead innovative research, mentor talented colleagues, and make a real impact on fisheries science in the Northern California and the Pacific Northwest.
What You’ll Do
Lead Research & Analysis: Design studies, analyze complex biological data, and develop advanced models for a variety of fish species.
Drive Innovation: Identify and pursue new research opportunities, focusing on applied quantitative modeling and structured decision-making.
Mentor & Collaborate: Guide junior staff, facilitate decision-making processes, and work closely with the FAST team.
Communicate & Represent: Present findings at scientific conferences, publish peer-reviewed papers, and contribute to regulatory documents.
Project Leadership: Manage multiple projects, serve as Project/Task Lead, and maintain strong client relationships.
Proposal Development: Write proposals, develop project scopes, and manage budgets for new research initiatives.
Field & Data Work: Balance time between data analysis and fieldwork in streams or on boats as needed.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree
8+ years of experience in fisheries biology, with a proven record of research funding and project leadership
Additional Skills/Experience
Advanced Degree in fisheries, biology, or a related discipline preferred
Expertise in statistical modeling, machine learning, and simulation using R and Python
Demonstrated ability to manage and analyze large datasets, create visualizations, and communicate results effectively
Strong leadership skills, including mentoring junior staff and fostering collaboration
Excellent organizational skills; adept at managing multiple projects with competing deadlines
Superior verbal and written communication abilities, with a talent for presenting complex information to diverse audiences
Recognized professional standing and network within fisheries science
Commitment to high-quality work, professionalism, and a positive, collegial attitude

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.
The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is:
$81,094.00 - $137,860.00Washington Remote Office (WA99)
