Bring your passion and commitment and we’ll welcome you into a tight-knit team that takes our mission personally. Channel your drive to make a difference into shaping an organization and an industry that’s evolving fast to the future.

At Pratt & Whitney, the difference you make is on display every day. Just look up. Are you ready to go beyond?

What You Will Do

Pratt & Whitney, a recognized leading producer of the world's most advanced commercial and military turbine engines, is seeking an experienced structures engineer to join our organization in our Assembly Equipment Engineering Design group. As part of the P&W Assembly Equipment Engineering Design group, you will analyze custom tooling designs for assembly and disassembly operations on P&W development and production engines. You will collaborate with peers within the design group as well as with other disciplines such as Assembly Equipment Engineering – Project Engineers, Assembly Process Planners, and Product Development & Design Engineers to identify assembly equipment load requirements. You will combine mechanical design, structural mechanics, and engineering principles with computer aided design and finite element analysis to analyze newly designed assembly equipment in a critical role to creating functional, safe, reliable, and manufacturable assembly equipment.

  • Produce structural assessments of assembly equipment for military and commercial engines with minimal guidance.

  • Apply knowledge of engineering mechanics, statics, and strength of materials to perform comprehensive structural analysis.

  • Analysis may include both classical methods of manual calculations and/or creation of finite element models (FEM) for detailed finite element analysis (FEA) using Ansys Workbench.

  • Participate in multi-discipline teams to provide design solutions that balance customer requirements for durability, cost and weight.

  • Document and present analysis results in design review meetings with management and internal customers.

  • Travel is up to 10%.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering

  • 5 years of mechanical structural engineering experience or an Advanced Degree in Engineering with 3 years of mechanical structural engineering experience.

  • Understanding and application of mechanics statics, strength of materials, and machine design theories and concepts including axial, shear, bending, torsion, combined stress and buckling.

  • Proficiency in applying strength of materials theories, including stress concentration factors, stress-strain curves, material properties, and factors of safety.

  • Competence in mechanics statics theories, such as free-body diagrams, equilibrium equations, vector decomposition, geometric properties, friction force, rolling resistance, and overturning.

  • Experience with structural finite element analysis (FEA).

  • Understanding of blueprints, dimensions & tolerances.

  • Experience with GD&T ASME Y14.5M-1994.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Proficiency with Teamcenter, Unigraphics NX, ANSYS Workbench and classical methods of structural analysis.

  • Assembly equipment experience.

  • Turbine jet engine assembly/disassembly equipment experience.

  • Turbine jet engine architecture knowledge.
