Mid-Senior levelJob Description:
At Cloudera, we empower people to transform complex data into clear and actionable insights. With as much data under management as the hyperscalers, we're the preferred data partner for the top companies in almost every industry. Powered by the relentless innovation of the open source community, Cloudera advances digital transformation for the world’s largest enterprises.
Senior Staff Software Engineering Intelligence (SEI) Platform Lead, R&D FinOps
Cloudera is looking for a Senior Staff SEI Platform Lead to join our R&D FinOps team and drive the adoption, configuration, and management of our Software Engineering Intelligence (SEI) solution across our organization of 1,000 engineers. You will be responsible for ensuring we leverage the SEI platform to transform R&D operations through data-driven insights for engineering leaders. This role requires a focus on translating engineering activity into measurable business outcomes, acting as the metrics champion, and closely collaborating with engineering managers, product leaders, and finance teams.
You must be self-driven, innovative, and proactive, possessing a strong desire to create new metrics and processes that deliver organizational focus and alignment.
As a Senior Staff SEI Platform Lead you will:
Implement, configure, and manage the SEI platform to provide actionable delivery insights at every level of the organization.
Configure the platform to combine data from Jira, Git, etc. to improve team performance and alignment.
Integrate data by mining data from standard DevOps toolsets such as issue tracking, code repositories, CI/CD, and monitoring tools.
Design and set up ‘North Star’ dashboards for leadership, defining, tracking, and driving key performance indicators (KPIs) using frameworks such as DORA, Flow metrics, and custom metrics sets.
Manage the measurement of engineering outcomes, including Business Alignment (ensuring teams focus on the right work and clearly communicate impact) and Predictable Delivery (seeing what is on track and at risk).
Define and customize analytics by combining data from third-party sources (e.g., finance, HR, and customer data) to illustrate engineering’s impact on value delivery.
Quantify Developer Experience (DevEx) using research-backed surveys and insights to uncover issues impacting productivity.
Act as the metrics champion responsible for guiding the implementation process, facilitating goal-setting workshops, and ensuring the organization understands the metrics framework, its benefits, and how it works.
Lead the organization in adopting a mixed-methods approach by combining qualitative (human-derived) and quantitative (system) metrics to gain maximum visibility into developer productivity.
Help teams to create achievable plans through capacity planning based on historical capacity and performance data.
Build strong relationships and collaborate with engineering leaders and managers to advise on appropriate metric usage, focusing on outcomes, not outputs.
We are excited if you have:
8+ years of experience in engineering management or R&D analytics, with proven experience implementing and managing a Software Engineering Intelligence (SEI) platform (like Plandek, DX, Jellyfish, etc.).
Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
Deep expertise in software delivery metrics, including the four DORA metrics (Deployment Frequency, Lead Time for Changes, Change Failure Rate, and Time to Restore Service).
Demonstrated understanding of Flow Metrics (WIP, Throughput, Cycle Time, Aging) and their interactions in improving team agility.
Expertise in data ingestion and transformation, including mining data from DevOps toolsets and editing SQL scripts to normalize and recategorize data based on business requirements.
Experience in quantifying the AI Impact by comparing tool adoption, usage, and efficiency impact (e.g., of tools like Copilot).
Ability to craft dashboards that connect engineering activity (pull requests, commits, and tickets) to broader company goals and metrics.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate metrics clearly to all stakeholders and build trust with the C-Suite.
Self-driven and motivated, with a strong sense of ownership in driving improvements based on data.
You may also have:
Experience with custom analytics and deep-dive Root Cause Analysis across the entire Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
Accreditation or training as a champion for SEI/delivery platforms.
