As a Senior Staff Electrical Engineer at Boston Dynamics, you will play a pivotal role in the evolution of Atlas, our advanced humanoid robot. You will join a fast-moving team tackling the challenges of integrating high-performance wireless connectivity and ensuring electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) within a densely packed and complex electromechanical system.
Boston Dynamics is seeking candidates with deep design experience integrating radio modules/antennas and experience with ElectroMagnetic Compatibility (EMC) testing/mitigation. You will work hands-on — from the bench to the test chamber — building, debugging, and validating systems ranging from component-level prototypes to fully integrated humanoid robots.
The ideal candidate will have expert-level proficiency in developing embedded systems with wireless modules/antennas and have knowledge of EMC testing as well as radio and/or antenna array integration. To thrive in this role, you must be able to work efficiently on multiple development threads in separate, evolving contexts.
How you will make an impact / Day-to-Day Activities:
Lead the design of electrical schematics and layouts incorporating power, analog, microprocessor, radio modules, and antennas
Own the EMI/EMC and RF validation lifecycle, including testing strategy, contribute significantly to regulatory compliance efforts (e.g. Intentional Radiator, Immunity/Susceptibility), and manage relationships with 3rd party test labs.
Define and drive design architecture, component strategy, and design validation plans for complex, multi-board systems
Work cross-functionally with electrical, mechanical, and software engineers to design and optimize radio/antenna performance in a challenging, metal-rich mechanical environment
Debug electrical and radio communication issues to root cause and develop improvements
Utilize Linux command-line tools and scripting (Python/Bash/etc.) to configure radios/networks, execute tools, and automate testing
Provide mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers on best practices, design methods, and development workflows
Develop comprehensive design documents and test plans/reports
