The opportunity:
Senior Staff Data Scientist is a highly experienced individual contributor role within the data science career pathway. This role is considered a Data Science ‘Bar Raiser’ which involves a combination of advanced technical skills and technical leadership responsibilities, and is primarily focused on technical excellence, innovation, and taking ownership and accountability for the technical maturity of the Data Science Practice.

Key Responsibilities:
• Demonstrate deep technical knowledge and specialist expertise to develop innovative solutions to complex organisational problems.
• Research and apply new methods to solve complex problems.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership (e.g. contribute to code) to support projects from concept to implementation, ensuring technical excellence and innovation.
• Collaborate with product teams, MLOps teams, Solution Architects, and product owners to remove friction points for data scientists.
• Work closely with other Data Science bar raisers to build a culture of performance and contribute to craft across the entire Data Science Practice including:
• Driving technical leadership to uplift the capability and maturity of Data Science.
• Designing and setting best practice data science standards (e.g. code quality, governance standards).
• Developing cutting-edge AI technologies, with the intent to scale and ‘productise’ across the organisation.
• Coaching and nurturing the development of data scientists.
• Staying up to date with emerging trends in data science, artificial intelligence and technology to ensure the Practice and organisation stays ahead of the curve.
We’re interested in hearing from people who have:
· Expertise in the design and construction of machine learning models, including feature engineering, model selection, hyperparameter tuning, model evaluation, and deployment of predictive models into production environments.
· Familiarity with various aspects of Generative AI, including prompt engineering, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), guardrail design, orchestration design, and tools such as LangChain and LangGraph.
· Worked on projects leveraging traditional AI, Generative AI, and Agentic AI to pave the path for how banking and broader industry functions in the future.
· Experience with version control and CI/CD pipelines such as GitHub.
· Familiarity with Docker for containerization and deployment of applications.
· Grounded understanding in AWS or Azure Cloud architecture and integration, demonstrating experience in deploying and managing cloud-based solutions.
· Tertiary Qualification in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science or Computer Science.
