Poppulo

Senior Software Test Engineer - Data & Analytics

Bengaluru, India- Hybrid Full Time

Introduction:

Are you searching for an opportunity to play a key role in driving the dramatic growth of a highly successful software company?

At Poppulo, we’re working on what’s next in communications and workplace technology. As a pioneer in this industry, we understand that meaningfully reaching every employee is hard. And so is managing office space in a hybrid world. And so is improving the customer and guest experience. We exist to make each of these things easier. We exist to bring harmony to our customers.

And we do that at enterprise scale. Our omnichannel employee communications, customer communications, and workplace experience platform is trusted by over 6,000 organizations today, reaching more than 35M employees and delivering content to 500,000+ digital signs.

We know there’s no such thing as a “perfect" candidate - we’re all a work in progress and are growing new skills and capabilities all the time. We encourage you to apply for a position with Poppulo even if you don’t meet 100% of the requirements. We believe in fostering an environment where there is a diversity of perspectives, in hopes that we can all thrive.

The Opportunity

You will join a cross-functional team building our Next-Generation Data & Analytics Platform on AWS. Our teams own scalable, event-driven pipelines, real-time data flows, and high-volume reporting capabilities used across our customer base.

We work in an agile, DevOps-oriented environment with an emphasis on quality engineering, sustainable delivery, and continuous improvement. You’ll help ensure our analytics systems are reliable, observable, secure, and capable of handling data at very large scale.

You will collaborate with Engineering, Product, and UX to deliver high-quality features across ingestion pipelines, transformations, storage layers, APIs, and customer-facing analytics.

The Person

You are passionate about quality in distributed, data-heavy systems. You’re naturally curious, ask sharp questions about data correctness and risk, and understand the nuances of testing pipelines and event-driven architectures.

You are self-directed, confident in your decision-making, and comfortable taking ownership of quality outcomes.

You prefer prevention over detection — shaping design discussions, identifying gaps early, and building fast, meaningful feedback loops into the delivery pipeline.

You have strong collaboration skills and enjoy coaching engineers to build quality into every stage of development. You are comfortable navigating cloud-native architectures, complex data flows, and modern observability tooling.

You’re a self-driven learner who stays current with AWS, data engineering trends, test automation, and quality engineering practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Champion a whole-team quality approach across data pipelines, APIs, and analytics features.
  • Embed testing, risk analysis, and observability considerations early in design and planning including writing test strategy and plans.
  • Test AWS analytics components such as Kinesis, Glue, Lambda, Redshift, Athena, S3, and event-driven workflows.
  • Use AWS-native tooling (CloudWatch, X-Ray) to support debugging and observability.
  • Validate data quality, transformations, schema changes, and end-to-end pipeline behaviour at scale.
  • Ensure effective automation at the appropriate layers (API/service, data validation, and UI as needed).
  • Integrate automated checks into CI/CD and support reliable, fast feedback loops.
  • Contribute to non-functional testing (performance, scalability, resilience, security).
  • Facilitate collaborative quality activities (exploratory testing, risk workshops, bug bashes).
  • Build a strong understanding of customer workflows and use production telemetry to guide testing.

Candidate Expertise Required

  • 7+ years in Software Testing/Quality Engineering, including experience with data-heavy or analytics systems.
  • Hands-on experience validating ETL/ELT pipelines, large datasets, and reporting workloads.
  • Experience with AWS services relevant to analytics and data platforms (e.g., Kinesis, Lambda, Glue, Redshift, Athena, DynamoDB, S3, EMR).
  • Experience with GitLab (or equivalent CI/CD platform) for automated testing and delivery.
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and API/service testing.
  • Proficient in at least one programming language (preferably in Python and TypeScript).
  • Experience building or contributing to automated testing frameworks (API/service and data validation).
  • Strong grounding in agile, DevOps, and CI/CD practices.
  • Experience with test data generation techniques and tools, including synthetic data creation, data masking.
  • Experience establishing a whole-team quality strategy and coaching teammates.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with observability tools (CloudWatch, X-Ray, Prometheus/Grafana, OpenTelemetry).
  • Familiarity with testing containerised workloads (ECS/EKS), serverless patterns, or IaC (CloudFormation/Terraform).
  • Experience with analytics and visualisation tools such as Power BI, Looker, or Tableau*.
  • Experience with Modern Test Automation frameworks such as Playwright.
  • Experience with performance testing for data workloads (e.g., large ingestion volumes, query performance).
  • Knowledge of data modelling, schema management, and data governance concepts.
  • Experience driving quality improvements at a team level.
  • Community involvement (Meetups/Conferences, blogs, Open-Source contributions).
  • Use of AI/GenAI tools to generate large, realistic datasets for validating data pipelines, analytics, and performance testing.
  • ISTQB (International Software Testing Qualifications Board) certification is preferred
