About the Role

The Core team is part of the Merchant Platform group, which provides platform capabilities for fraud prevention and abuse protection to thousands of eCommerce merchants.

The Core Team consists of experienced backend engineers who are strong owners of Riskified’s core application platform and the foundational microservices that power the company’s flagship products. The team is responsible for all aspects of development: from planning with architects and product managers, researching and selecting the right technologies, implementing highly reliable and scalable systems, and ensuring they run smoothly in production at all times.
The Core team works with vast amounts of data and processes billions of transactions.

We actively leverage modern AI-assisted development tools (such as Claude Code, Cursor, and similar) to improve developer productivity, code quality, and continuous learning.

Riskified is moving toward broader adoption of AI-driven solutions, including internal AI agents that support engineering and operational workflows, as well as AI-powered capabilities in production-facing products. The Core team plays a key role in building and supporting the scalable, reliable platforms that enable this direction.

Our Stack: Scala, TypeScript, SQS, Kafka, Kafka Streams, Aerospike, CockroachDB, Redis, Spark, Airflow, Databricks, Kubernetes, Prometheus, Grafana.

What You'll Be Doing

• Design and develop highly reliable, available, and scalable architectures for our core services and flagship products
• Take strong ownership over production systems, ensuring they run smoothly and reliably at all times
• Deploy code to production on a daily basis using advanced CI/CD pipelines
• Work with large volumes of data in both real-time and batch processing systems, including stream processing, ETLs, and data warehouse technologies
• Take technical ownership over complex, cross-domain problems and drive them from design through production
• Play an active role in shaping the team roadmap and influencing product and technical direction
• Collaborate closely with other engineering teams and product managers on cross-department initiatives

Qualifications

• 5+ years of proven experience in hands-on server-side development
• Passion for writing clean, tested, and high-quality code
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams
• Independent self-learner with a strong sense of ownership and accountability
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  
• Hands-on experience with Scala or Java – advantage
• Experience building high-throughput, low-latency systems – advantage
• Experience working in microservices-based architectures – advantage
