Senior Software Engineer (Performance Engineering Track)
Build something new with a world-class team.
What this role is
You will work closely with both Genesys Cloud Testing and Development resources to design, develop and maintain performance engineering solutions in a complex and ever-changing cloud-based environment. You will help build and improve the tooling, test coverage, and technical practices that allow Genesys Cloud to understand quality, scalability, and reliability under production-like load. This role sits within the greater Genesys Cloud Performance group and reports to a Senior Manager. Our group’s purpose is to provide a unique set of services, tools, and analysis that give Genesys Cloud the ability to detect risk early and protect the platform under high-load situations.
What this role isn’t
It is not just executing test runs or maintaining jobs and pipelines. This isn’t a pure automation role, but one focused on a holistic approach to quality: exploratory, performance, scalability, and stability. This isn’t a narrowly focused role on one service and one team, but an opportunity to collaborate with multiple teams distributed across the globe while remaining deeply hands-on in design, coding, troubleshooting, and analysis.
What you’ll bring to the table
You will need a solid understanding of cloud-native microservice architecture and software development, along with a production-first mindset: the goal is to prevent issues that could impact platform stability before they happen. You will also need strong problem-solving skills and the ability to investigate issues using telemetry, traces, logs, and metrics. Success in this role requires curiosity, collaboration, and the ability to balance technical depth with practical delivery. You should be comfortable learning new tools and approaches, especially across AI, AWS, observability, and load-generation technologies.
What’s in it for you
You will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience with large-scale distributed systems, cloud-native services, and modern performance engineering practices. Even while you’re learning new technologies and testing platforms, your work will have direct impact by helping protect Genesys Cloud from performance and stability risks before they reach customers.
What you’ll do
· Design, develop, and maintain performance test coverage for new and existing Genesys Cloud features and services.
· Build and improve software, frameworks, and automation used to generate load, analyse results, and investigate issues.
· Partner with development teams to identify critical user journeys, performance risks, limits, and observability gaps early in the delivery lifecycle.
· Consult with internal teams on instrumentation, monitoring, and alerting of microservices on AWS to improve reliability and performance.
· Investigate stability and scalability issues using logs, metrics, traces, dashboards, and test artefacts to drive root-cause analysis.
· Contribute to shared performance engineering services and processes, suggesting improvements through code, architecture, or workflow changes.
· Participate in code reviews and provide technical guidance on performance-related design and implementation decisions.
· Support test-environment health through incident response, post-incident analysis, and participation in on-call rotations as needed.
· Collaborate across teams to ensure features are ready to withstand realistic and sometimes unexpected production-style usage patterns.
Who you are (Minimum requirements)
· Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
· Proven experience designing, building, and maintaining software in a cloud-native environment.
· Experience designing and executing performance, load, or scalability testing for distributed systems.
· Proficient in debugging complex issues and performing root cause analysis using observability tools and production telemetry.
· Understanding of observability patterns, including metrics, traces, and logs.
Experience with one or more of the following programming languages:
· Python
· TypeScript or JavaScript
· C#
· Java
· Good understanding of backend microservice development, including REST APIs, asynchronous messaging (Kafka or similar), and data storage patterns such as NoSQL.
· Hands-on experience with one or more cloud providers, including AWS, Azure, and/or Google Cloud Platform.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
