Job
The Senior Software Engineer is a senior technical hands-on role with an emphasis primarily on delivering high quality code and solutions as an individual contributor. Responsible for the end to end delivery of complex features, acting as a technical mentor. What You’ll Do
Mobile Development: Deliver high-quality, robust code on the Simpro mobile platform (Ionic, Capacitor, Angular) at a high cadence, shipping multiple times per week. Take full ownership of features from problem statement to production with minimal hand-holding.
AI-First Engineering: Leverage AI tools (Claude, Copilot) as a core part of your daily workflow to accelerate delivery, improve code quality, and solve complex problems faster. AI-first is not optional — it's how this team operates.
Innovation: Work in small autonomous pods of 1–2 engineers, forming around work items as they flow into the collective. Bring ideas to the table and make independent decisions that move things forward without waiting for perfect information.
Code Quality: Actively participate in peer code reviews, providing constructive feedback to ensure quality, performance, security and scalability across the mobile codebase.
Problem Solving: Investigate and resolve complex technical issues, defects, and performance bottlenecks. Make sound technical decisions on the fly, balancing speed with customer impact.
Agile Collaboration: Work within a Fast Agile environment — a blend of sprints and Kanban — collaborating across a collective of engineers in Brisbane and Auckland. Participate in ceremonies and contribute to continuous, customer-focused delivery.
Process Adherence: Create and maintain clear technical documentation for new features and existing systems. Proactively suggest improvements to engineering processes, tools, and technical debt management.
Mentorship: Mentor mid-level and junior engineers to elevate the overall technical capability of the team.
This job description is not an exhaustive list of duties and may be modified at the discretion of Simpro Group.
What You’ll Bring
Mobile experience is a must — hands-on development with Angular or React in a mobile context is non-negotiable. Experience with Ionic and Capacitor is a strong advantage.
AI-first mindset — you actively use AI tools like Claude or Copilot in your day-to-day engineering workflow, not just occasionally. You know how to leverage them to move faster and deliver better outcomes.
Ownership and independence — you take a problem statement and run with it. You don't need every requirement spelled out before you can start, and you're comfortable making decisions without perfect information.
Commercial acumen — you understand how your technical decisions affect real customers and real business outcomes. Our mobile platform is used by 100,000+ field technicians; you care about the people behind the code.
Strong communication skills — able to articulate complex technical issues, influence direction, and collaborate openly across a distributed team.
Entrepreneurial or startup background is a strong plus — we value people who've worn many hats and built things end to end.
5+ years of software engineering experience with demonstrable proficiency in relevant languages and frameworks. A relevant degree or qualification (Computer Science, Software Engineering, Bootcamp) is valued but not the deciding factor.
Cloud or SaaS experience is desirable but not required.
