About the Role

We are seeking a Backend Engineer with a strong foundation in financial systems and hands-on experience in digital assets. You will design, build, and maintain scalable backend services that power trading platforms, payment systems, and digital asset infrastructure.

This role sits at the intersection of traditional finance and emerging decentralized technologies, requiring both rigorous engineering practices and adaptability to a rapidly evolving ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement high-performance backend services and APIs for financial applications
• Build and maintain systems for trading, settlement, and asset custody (fiat and crypto)
• Integrate with blockchain networks (e.g., Ethereum, Bitcoin) and third-party financial APIs
• Ensure system reliability, security, and scalability under high-throughput conditions
• Develop and maintain data pipelines for real-time and batch financial data processing
• Collaborate with product, frontend, and DevOps teams to deliver end-to-end solutions
• Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting to ensure system health and uptime

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience in a production environment
• Strong proficiency in one or more backend languages (e.g., Python, Java, Go, Rust or Node.js)
• Solid understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, and RESTful APIs
• Experience working with relational and/or NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB)
• Familiarity with financial systems (trading, payments, risk, or accounting systems)
• Hands-on experience with defi services
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building or integrating crypto custody solutions
• Knowledge of financial regulations (e.g., KYC, AML, compliance frameworks)
• Experience with message queues and streaming systems (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ)
• Background in high-frequency or low-latency systems

The Base Salary Range is $170,000 - $250,000. These ranges are representative of the starting base salaries for this role at Clear Street. Which range a candidate fits into and where a candidate falls in the range will be based on job related factors such as relevant experience, skills, and location. These ranges represent Base Salary only, which is just one element of Clear Street's total compensation. The ranges stated do not include other factors of total compensation such as bonuses or equity.
