About the Team & Opportunity

The Auth team at Clever is the gateway to digital learning for millions of students and educators. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be a key driver of our sign-in and application access products, including Single Sign-On (SSO), Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), and specialized device access. We are hiring because our platform’s reach continues to expand, requiring more sophisticated, secure, and accessible identity solutions that "just work" in a classroom setting.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • The problem you’ll solve: You will simplify the complexities of identity management, building robust systems that protect sensitive student data while removing technical barriers to classroom entry.
  • Who you’ll partner with: You will collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, and Marketing to turn research into high-performance features, and act as a mentor to peers through high-quality code reviews.
  • What success looks like: Success is defined by the seamless delivery of secure, accessible features that maintain our 99.98%+ uptime and foster a culture of engineering excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Key projects you’ll lead: You will drive the development of intuitive UIs and Go-based microservices, architecting end-to-end solutions for MFA, device-level access on iOS and Windows, and scalable REST APIs.

What We’re Looking For

  • Project Leadership: Proven ability to lead complex projects from design to deployment, collaborating effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Cloud & Infrastructure: Hands-on experience with AWS technologies (DynamoDB, ECS, Step Functions, SQS) and a strong grasp of microservices architecture.
  • Reliability & Testing: Experience with CI/CD pipelines and a disciplined approach to automated unit and end-to-end testing to ensure platform stability.
  • Culture & Mentorship: A commitment to understand and prioritize the Clever engineering culture (see our blog post on Defining Clever's Engineering Culture) and a desire to grow the team through collaboration.
  • Analytical Rigor: The ability to perform deep-dive root cause analysis on complex, stack-wide problems to find performance and security opportunities.
