About the Team

The Workday Analytics Experience team focuses on the development and service management of an end-to-end data analysis and discovery product offered as part of the Workday cloud-based business application solutions. Our mission is to employ the latest web design and distributed computing technologies in creating a data analysis product that’s both easy-to-use and powerful.
This is a technical, challenging, and highly rewarding environment. We are looking for engineers with a strong quality mindset who are passionate about automated testing, framework architecture, and understanding how complex full-stack systems integrate to deliver reliable enterprise functionality.
Candidates who join the Analytics Experience team will have the opportunity to work on:
Industry-defining technology in the area of business intelligence, high-quality visualization creation, and advanced data rendering engines.
Learning the needs and gaining hands-on experience using an enterprise-grade data discovery product.
Architecting and contributing to the building, testing, and deployment infrastructure for a high-traffic, distributed platform.

About the Role

Do what you love. Love what you do. As a Senior SDET, you will drive the quality strategy for our next-generation Analytics Experience platform, ensuring that our highly interactive data visualization tools exceed customer expectations for quality, performance, and reliability.

You are a hands-on leader who is passionate about playing with data and building resilient, scalable, and maintainable test automation frameworks. As a Senior SDET focused on Frontend and Backend E2E testing, you will be crucial in defining our testing roadmap in the new Chennai office.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Playwright Ownership: Architect, develop, and maintain our End-to-End (E2E) test automation framework using Playwright to ensure robust coverage across the entire software stack (UI, API, and Database).

  • Full Stack E2E Testing: Design and implement complex data validation strategies, verifying data integrity, visualization accuracy, and rendering performance from the UI to the underlying database layers.

  • CI/CD Integration: Integrate automated test suites into the CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Github Actions/Jenkins/Bamboo) to enable continuous quality assessment and rapid feedback loops.

  • Quality Leadership: Own the end-to-end quality and delivery of new features, starting from design and planning through execution, automation, and deployment.

  • Metrics and Analysis: Collect automation failure metrics, analyze root causes (both test and code defects), and recommend and implement corrective measures to improve system stability and test efficiency.

  • Mentorship: Mentor junior engineers on automation best practices, framework usage, and quality engineering principles.

  • Collaboration: Document software defects thoroughly using a bug tracking system and collaborate closely with developers and product managers to ensure timely resolution.

About You

Basic Qualifications (Mandatory)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field.

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in software quality engineering, with significant experience focusing on full-stack test automation.

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience designing and implementing highly scalable E2E test suites using modern frameworks such as Playwright or Cypress.

  • Expert-level proficiency (7+ years) in at least one modern programming language (e.g., TypeScript, Python, or Java) for framework development and tooling.

  • Strong experience in testing APIs and microservices using tools like REST Assured, Postman, or curl.

Other Qualifications (Preferred)

  • Deep working knowledge of relational and/or NoSQL database concepts and the ability to write complex SQL queries for backend data validation.

  • Strong experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Bamboo, TeamCity) and code revision management (GIT).

  • Experience operating in a Unix/Linux environment and developing shell scripts for test execution and environment setup.

  • Demonstrated ability to deal with ambiguous/undefined problems, think abstractly, and define technical solutions.

  • Prior experience in performance, load, or reliability testing is a plus, particularly in the context of data-intensive applications.

  • Familiarity with cloud environments (GCP, AWS, or Azure) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).

  • Experience working collaboratively with cross-functional and geographically distributed teams.

  • Domain experience in Application Analytics, Business Intelligence, or data reporting platforms.

Our Approach to Flexible Work

With Flex Work, we’re combining the best of both worlds: in-person time and remote. Our approach enables our teams to deepen connections, maintain a strong community, and do their best work. We know that flexibility can take shape in many ways, so rather than a number of required days in-office each week, we simply spend at least half (50%) of our time each quarter in the office or in the field with our customers, prospects, and partners (depending on role). This means you'll have the freedom to create a flexible schedule that caters to your business, team, and personal needs, while being intentional to make the most of time spent together. Those in our remote "home office" roles also have the opportunity to come together in our offices for important moments that matter.
