The position is that of Senior Social Worker for the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Clinics (PCT) at the VA - North Florida South Georgia Veterans Health System (NFSGVHS). The PTSD Social Worker is able to make complex and independent clinical judgments as demonstrated by at least two years of specialized social work practice.

Major Duties:

• The PCT Senior Social Worker is primarily responsible for screening, assessing, treatment planning, clinical care provision, case-managing and discharge planning at the advanced practice level. The incumbent represents the social work profession and perspective on the multidisciplinary team that may include other social workers, nurses, psychologists, and psychiatrists. The incumbent also has teaching and orientation responsibilities for social work and psychology interns and residents, nursing students, and psychiatric residents. The incumbent has program development and effective administrative responsibilities directed toward improving and refining service delivery systems. The Senior Social Worker will provide consultation and guidance to colleagues, will role model effective social work practice skills, develop innovations in practice interventions, and provide clinical supervision for social work licensure or certification. The Senior Social Worker practices independently, using professional judgment and expertise to make decisions about services and treatment provided to veterans and their families. Duties may include but are not limited to: Independently performs specialized assessment and treatment of PTSD, complex PTSD, and related comorbidities.Treatments will include both individual and group interventions utilizing both traditional psychotherapeutic approaches and evidence-based practices for the treatment of PTSD and a range of co-existing conditions, especially including but not limited to depression, substance use disorders, chronic pain, and sleep disturbance. Evidence-based therapies will include Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Participate in team staffing regarding patient selection, determination of treatment plans and goals, progress evaluation, discharge planning, and after care. Provides consultation to Social Workers and interdisciplinary teams. Work assertively and consistently with VA staff and treatment teams to assure continuity of care by providing consultation regarding clinical needs, treatment plans, and case management services for assigned patients. Works assertively to promote appropriate treatment, rehabilitation, and expeditious discharge of assigned patients, consistent with program goals and with the individual treatment plans. Administratively responsible for development and implementation of methods for measuring effectiveness of social work practice and services in PCT, including treatment program monitoring and evaluation, and may include evidence-based practice evaluation, utilizing outcome evaluations to improve treatment services. Incumbent is able to demonstrate the ability to design changes based upon empirical findings. The Senior Social Worker in the PCT must function with considerable autonomy, without benefit of supervision from more senior social workers. Develops trauma-focused treatment plans via shared decision making with Veteran and in coordination with interdisciplinary team members, including goals for clinical treatment. Using known available resources and the initial assessment of the service memberNeteran's likelihood to accept differing types of assistance, makes initial and continuing decisions regarding use of VA and non-VA services and referrals. Arrives at a reasoned conclusion as to the preferred course of agency action. Provides independent consultation and makes recommendations to interdisciplinary team on course of treatment. Qualifications: Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Licensure. Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. GRADE REQUIREMENTS In addition to the basic requirements for employment, the following criteria must be met when determining the grade of candidates. Senior Social Worker, GS-12: Experience: At least two (2) years of experience post advanced practice clinical licensure, of which one (1) year of experience is equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Education: Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. Licensure. Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator MUST be licensed or certified at the Advanced Practice Level AND must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: (a) Skill in a range of specialized interventions and treatment modalities used in specialty treatment programs or with special patient populations. This includes individual, group, and/or family counseling or psychotherapy and advanced level psychosocial and/or case management. (b) Ability to incorporate complex multiple causation in differential diagnosis and treatment within approved clinical privileges or scope of practice. (c) Knowledge in developing and implementing methods for measuring effectiveness of social work practice and services in the specialty area, utilizing outcome evaluations to improve treatment services and to design system changes. (d) Ability to provide specialized consultation to colleagues and students on the psychosocial treatment of patients in the service delivery area, as well as role modeling effective social work practice skills. (e) Ability to expand clinical knowledge in the social work profession, and to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines pertaining to the service delivery area.
