Senior Site Safety Specialist

Safety Specialist II, III or Senior (DOE)

Where will you work: Onsite at our Riverview facility with an option to work a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off - 8813 HWY 41 south | Riverview, FL 33578

As a Safety Specialist on our team, you will partner with the facility HSS manager and/or Superintendent to develop action items to resolve regulatory concerns. Every day you will provide daily support of safety and occupational health programs to ensure effective management of H&S risks and compliance with federal, state, and local H&S regulations and company policies at our US Distribution facilities. You will work to proactively evaluate and control site H&S risks by leading the facility’s execution of compliance assurance processes.  You will thrive in this role if you value safety and enjoy working in an industrial environment.

What you’ll do:

  • Provide site Health and Safety Leadership and support overseeing all aspects of worker safety and regulatory compliance.

  • Facilitate the site's implementation of our Mosaic Management System (MMS), focused on HSS programs including establishing the roles of site personnel who will assist with (or lead) each program; assuring the development of prioritized action plans with timetables for execution; and participating in the development of plant specific procedures and methods.

  • Conduct, document and follow-up on site H&S-related incident investigations.

  • Monitor the site's "implementation status" of all H&S audit and incident investigation corrective actions.

  • Perform and/or facilitate consultant performance of job- /workplace- / task-specific equipment, safety hazard, ergonomic, and industrial hygiene risk assessments.

  • Coordinate safety system inspections, testing and maintenance (e.g. fire protection systems, eye washes and safety showers, safety critical devices, etc.).

  • Oversee and facilitate (new) employee and contractor safety orientations. Assists in the facility's implementation of Mosaic's EHSMS activities.

  • Audit the quality and effectiveness of preventative H&S risk management/compliance processes.

  • Ensure significant H&S risks, hazardous work practices, hazardous conditions, employee IH exposures (above relevant limits), and/or non-compliance issues are promptly addressed and sustainably controlled, as high on the hierarchy-of-control as possible.

  • Proactively apprises business unit, facility and EHS leadership of gaps in H&S risk management or compliance.

  • Monitor all site contractor activities for conformance with Mosaic HSS procedures, effective risk controls, and compliance with governmental requirements.

  • Lead and coordinate facility Emergency Response Team.

What you’ll need:

Safety Specialist II

  • High school diploma or GED with 5 years related experience as a safety professional in an industrial/mining environment OR Bachelor’s degree with 1 year of related experience.

  • Experience as an RCA facilitator is a plus.

  • CSP or similar accredited certification is a plus.

  • Working knowledge of safety and occupational health regulations required.

Safety Specialist III

  • Bachelor's degree in related field with at least 3 years of relevant experience OR high school diploma with at least 7 years relevant experience.

  • Advanced knowledge of applicable safety regulatory framework in the area of work (OSHA, MSHA).

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar accredited certification a plus.

  • Individuals with specific facilitation training or root cause analysis (RCA) training are highly desired. 

Senior Safety Specialist

  • Bachelor's degree in related field with at least 5 years’ experience as a safety professional in an industrial/mining environment OR high school diploma with at least 9 years relevant experience, with increasing levels of responsibility.

  • Expert knowledge of applicable safety regulatory framework in the area of work (OSHA, MSHA).

  • Professional designation such as CSP or similar accredited certification is required.  If professional designation is not in place at time of hire, there must be a plan to achieve it within a timeline acceptable to the hiring manager; no longer than 2 years.

  • Individuals with specific facilitation training or root cause analysis (RCA) training are highly desired. 

All levels:

  • Must be able to work comfortably and safely in an industrial environment

  • Ability and desire to coach others

  • Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook), basic understanding of databases

  • Able to apply current requirements to the work setting and the site or business unit requirements

  • Ability to interface effectively throughout the facility’s workforce

  • Solid verbal and written communication skills

  • Must be able to work independently

  • Attention to detail
