About the Wells Digital Platform:
The Wells Digital Platform is a global delivery team responsible for providing the digital tools needed to enable Chevron’s enterprise-wide Wells business capabilities. Team members partner with business Product Owners to execute prioritized work epics following an Agile software delivery methodology. The team supports the digital enablement of Wells petrotechnical workflows. Example workflows include but are not limited to: assurance and safety controls; real-time monitoring; wells engineering and planning; execution of drilling and completions; plug and abandon; data and insights; reporting, artificial intelligence and analytics.
About This Position:
The Wells Real-time Operations Wells Digital Platform Real-Time Operations Site Reliability Engineer is responsible for supporting the Wells Digital Platform Real-Time Operations to ensure cost competitiveness, reliability, and securing operations of Chevron's Wells operations globally while also enabling digital capabilities. We are seeking a T-shaped dynamic Site Reliability Engineer to lead and provide end-to-end solution support for our digital platforms and help us achieve higher returns and lower carbon goals. This position is a member of and partners closely with the Digital Platform’s Real-time Operations Product Line including the Manager, as well as the associated business Product Owners and stakeholders and Agile development teams. The expectation for this role is 5-10 years of relevant experience.
Key responsibilities:
Key responsibilities (day-to-day tasks, learning and development opportunities)
• Analyze and understand Wells Process Safety Monitoring and Engineering and Performance capabilities to support Wells real-time needs
• Manage reliability of Wells third party SaaS solution and vendor relationship management
• Engage with Wells Operations Manager to ensure reliability and handle cyber incidents
• Steward Wells Digital Platform and Real-time Product vision and strategies, team up with Product Management as well as Solution/System Architects to ensure guiding SRE principles and promote product maturity roadmap and journey plans
• Align with Chevron Digital Architecture System standards and work with Solution/System Architects to support Product solution/application life cycle management to ensure product reliability, scalability and sustainability
• Leverage extensive SRE knowledge and experience with SLO, SLI, and SLA to help Product Owners in setting up observability via monitoring and reliability via performance management for solution error budgeting
• Align & inspire Product Line Agile teams in creating MVP solutions, develop and evangelize best practices based on SRE principles, standards and guardrails
• Engage and collaborate with Agile development teams to promote product maturity and create solutions with built-in quality throughout Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) - from analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, and maintenance
• Based on hands-on experience to assist Agile development teams in demand forecast and capacity planning, troubleshooting, emergency response and risk mitigations
• Be the liaison between Business/Digital Platform and IT Operations Center SRE for Tier 0 and Tier 1 solutions.
Required Qualifications:
Preferred Education/Degrees
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, Information Technologies, or Management Information Systems.
Skills
• Site Reliability Engineering Fundamentals: Leverage SRE principles and best practices of SLO, SLI, SLA, error budgets, eliminating toil via automation, observability and monitoring, emergency response (triage, postmortem, retrospective), demand forecast and capacity planning, deliver results.
• Cloud Fundamentals: Azure Basics, DevOps
• Automation and programmability; proficient in Python, Ansible, YAML and asynchronous programming.
• Observability and Monitoring
• Structured technical problem solving and debugging; perfect understanding of access control lists, address translation, tunneling, and standard routing protocols.
• Critical thinking, self-motivated with excellent communication skills, and the demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Able to conceive and develop a presentation to a peer group that is logical, well-written, and concise.
Experience
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in developing, deploying and maintaining fully automated data transformation pipelines. 5 - 10 years of experience
• Experience using Restful APIs to integrate various technologies.
• Team player with excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Knowledge of the Oil & Gas industry, especially Wells data and processes
• Familiar with Wells technical systems such as Corva, SigmaStream, PetroLink
• Familiarity with Wells workflows, patterns, engineering standards and nomenclature
• Microsoft Azure Cloud Fundamentals (AZ-900) Certification
• Microsoft Azure Developer Associate (AZ-204) Certification
• Designing Microsoft Azure Infrastructure Solutions (AZ-305) Certification
• Designing and Implementing Microsoft DevOps Solutions (AZ-400) Certification
