Job Summary

TYLin is seeking a highly experienced Senior Signals Engineer to support the planning, design, and delivery of complex rail and transit signal systems across commuter rail, light rail, and high-speed rail projects.

This role will lead signal engineering efforts from concept through commissioning, with responsibility for developing robust, safe, and efficient train control and signaling solutions in multi-disciplinary project environments.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead the design and engineering of rail signal systems, including interlockings, cab signaling, CBTC/PTC systems, and grade crossing warning systems

  • Develop and review signal circuit designs, control lines, route & aspect charts, and cable plans

  • Serve as Engineer of Record and/or technical lead on major signal projects

  • Produce and oversee preparation of construction documents (plans, specifications, cost estimates, and schedules)

  • Perform design reviews, circuit checking, and quality assurance of signal deliverables

  • Support installation, testing, commissioning, and system cutovers, including field coordination

  • Interface with clients, operations teams, and multidisciplinary stakeholders to define system requirements

  • Contribute to proposals, technical specifications, and procurement support, including bid evaluations and shop drawing reviews

  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and designers

What You’ll Bring:

  • Extensive experience in rail signal and train control system design across transit and commuter rail environments

  • Strong expertise in:

    • Microprocessor and relay-based interlockings

    • Cab signal systems and communications-based train control (CBTC/PTC)

    • Grade crossing design and train detection systems

  • Proven ability to deliver full lifecycle signal engineering, from conceptual design through commissioning

  • Experience preparing contract documents and supporting construction-phase activities

  • Familiarity with FRA, AREMA, and transit agency standards (e.g., SEPTA, Amtrak, TTC, etc.)

  • Demonstrated leadership in technical delivery and multidisciplinary coordination

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with yard signal systems, high-speed rail corridors, and complex interlocking modifications

  • Background supporting state-of-good-repair programs, system upgrades, and rehabilitation projects

  • Prior experience in design-build and traditional delivery models
