Senior Serviceability Engineer

As a Serviceability Engineer on the Global Services and Support team of Boston Dynamics, you will play a crucial role in enabling our teams to efficiently and effectively service our cutting-edge robots worldwide. This position will be instrumental in developing and maintaining the necessary documentation, processes, and tooling to empower our global service team to maximize robot uptime and reduce costs. The Serviceability Engineer will be a key contributor to continuous improvement initiatives, directly impacting the scalability and effectiveness of our global service and support operations. Every day, you will interact with the product design, manufacturing, program management, and quality engineering teams to ensure the appropriate service engineering strategies are developed to deliver a world-class service experience.

Responsibilities :

  • Define, develop and maintain service strategies and implementation plans, including:

    • Service Work Instructions: Create clear, concise, and visually supported instructions for service procedures, including troubleshooting, repair, component replacement, preventative maintenance, calibration, and tool requirements.

    • Service Tooling: Oversee the procurement and validation of tools for effectiveness.

    • FRU change management: Document all service field replaceable unit (FRU) part numbers, descriptions, interchangeability information and changes in repair procedures

  • Influence product designs and engineering changes for ease of access, modularity, component replacement, and other impacts to service processes or strategies.  Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing and Product Development on: 

    • System Requirements definitions pertaining to serviceability

    • Identification of FRUs and design and validation of service procedures and tools

    • Roll out and implementation of engineering changes (ECOs)

    • Input on prioritization of issues in FRACAS 

  • Create and maintain a Service Bill of Materials and ensure availability: Accountable for managing and updating BOMs for service-related items: tools, hardware kits, FRUs. Ensure BOMs are structured for efficient ordering, kitting, and inventory management. Oversee procurement and maintenance of service tooling to ensure availability.


 

Desired Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field  

  • Proven experience (typically 3+ years) in a manufacturing engineering, process engineering, or service engineering role, preferably within a technical or robotics industry

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, assembly techniques, and Bill of Materials structures with experience in developing clear and effective technical documentation

  • Familiarity with tooling design, procurement, and maintenance processes.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach to continuous improvement

  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively interact with cross-functional teams and global stakeholders 

  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Catia) for creating tooling drawings and visual aids

  • Experience with PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) or PDM (Product Data Management) systems for managing BOMs and documentation

  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Kaizen, Six Sigma) is a plus

  • Experience working with global service teams or supporting international operations is a plus

Travel: 

  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time including international

The base pay range for this position is between $73,000.00 to $101,000.00 annually. Base pay will depend on multiple individualized factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.  This range represents a good-faith estimate of compensation at the time of posting. Boston Dynamics offers a generous Benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), paid time off, and an annual bonus structure.  Additional details regarding these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer for employment.
