See Yourself at Telix
Physical Sciences R&D is seeking a Senior Scientist with deep expertise in organic, analytical, and radiochemistry to play a critical role in the design, development, and advancement of radiopharmaceutical programs across the Telix pipeline.
In this role, the Senior Scientist will independently lead complex experimental workstreams, contribute to program‑level scientific strategy, and solve technically ambiguous problems spanning discovery through GMP‑adjacent development. The position requires regular handling of radioactive materials and work within both R&D and GMP environments.
The ideal candidate is a recognized technical expert who operates with minimal supervision, mentors junior scientists, and is motivated to make high‑impact contributions to the next generation of radiopharmaceutical therapeutics.
Key Accountabilities:
Scientific Leadership & Ownership
-
- Serve as a technical lead for assigned projects or workstreams, driving experimental strategy, execution, and interpretation with limited oversight.
- Apply advanced scientific judgment to design, optimize, and troubleshoot complex radiochemical and analytical processes.
- Identify scientific risks, propose mitigation strategies, and adapt approaches in response to experimental findings.
Experimental Design & Execution
-
- Independently design, execute, and document sophisticated experiments supporting radiopharmaceutical discovery and development.
- Lead the synthesis and optimization of novel bifunctional chelators and radiolabeled compounds.
- Ensure experimental work is conducted efficiently, safely, and in alignment with project timelines and program goals.
Analytical Method Development
-
- Develop, validate, and refine advanced radioanalytical methods, including radio‑TLC and HPLC, to support characterization, release, and stability studies.
- Evaluate and implement improvements to analytical approaches to increase robustness, sensitivity, and throughput.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
-
- Partner closely with Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, and cross‑disciplinary R&D teams to support program progression.
- Provide scientific input to cross‑functional discussions, contributing to decision‑making at the project or sub‑program level.
Data Analysis, Reporting & Communication
-
- Critically analyze complex datasets and translate findings into clear technical conclusions and recommendations.
- Author and review technical reports, development summaries, and presentations for internal stakeholders and external collaborators.
- Support documentation required for GxP, regulatory, or tech‑transfer activities, as applicable.
Laboratory & Operational Excellence
-
- Ensure proper operation, calibration, and qualification of laboratory equipment.
- Promote best practices in laboratory safety, radioactive material handling, and data integrity.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the laboratory and broader R&D organization.
Mentorship & Knowledge Sharing
-
- Mentor and guide junior scientists, providing technical direction, feedback, and informal coaching.
- Share expertise and lessons learned to elevate overall team capability and scientific rigor.
Education and Experience:
- PhD + 5 years, MS + 6 years, or BS + 8 years of relevant industry or post‑doctoral experience.
- Demonstrated experience working with radioactive materials in an R&D and/or GMP‑adjacent environment.
- Proven track record of independent scientific contribution and problem solving.
Technical Expertise
- Advanced proficiency in synthetic organic chemistry and radiochemistry.
- Strong experience developing and applying radioanalytical methods (e.g., radio‑TLC, HPLC).
- Expertise in statistical experimental design, data interpretation, and structured problem solving (e.g., Six Sigma methodologies).
Professional Capabilities
- Experience leading project‑level or workstream‑level scientific initiatives.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex technical concepts.
- Demonstrated ability to influence without authority and operate effectively in a matrixed, fast‑paced environment.
Key Capabilities:
