Primary Job Function
Bioinformatics research and development for DNA sequencing applications and microbiology testing in food safety and microbiome research. Design and optimize computational workflows to extract meaningful insights from complex genomic datasets. Execute on development and IT operations that enable robust, scalable bioinformatics solutions, ensuring integration of data pipelines, automation, and high-performance computing to support research initiatives.
What You’ll Work On
Core Job Responsibilities
- Conducts bioinformatics analyses related to food safety and microbiome science. Interprets, reports and translates results effectively to diverse cross-functional teams. Works collaboratively to integrate cross-functional inputs into analyses.
- Design and implement cloud-based computational pipelines to process and analyze large microbial genomic datasets efficiently. Integrate predefined food safety pipelines into workflows. Leverage containerized applications and workflow management systems to ensure reproducibility, scalability, and portability.
- Develop and validate computational pipelines for bacterial genomic data analysis and processes for data transfer and management, implementing best practices for quality control and performance benchmarking. Drive continuous improvement through systematic testing, version control, and adherence to industry standards.
- Create comprehensive documentation for tools, processes, and data handling protocols to support collaboration, compliance, and regulatory requirements.
Required Qualifications
Required
- PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or related field. MS with commensurate experience considered. Experience in bacterial genomics strongly preferred.
Preferred
- Demonstrated success in microbial genomics research and development and proficiency in bioinformatics pipeline development required. Experience with microbiology of built environments a plus.
- Experience with containerization tools (Docker, Apptainer, Kubernetes), code management and version control platforms (GitHub, GitLab) and workflow management systems (Nextflow) a plus.
- Proficient in scripting and programming languages, including Python, Bash, Make, and Groovy. Familiarity with AWS tools and services strongly preferred.
- Ideal candidates will have a strong track record of productivity through technical publications, patents, and/or conference presentations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to translate technical concepts to a general audience and apply findings to real world scenarios
