ROLE SUMMARY
The Internal Medicine Research Unit (IMRU) at Pfizer seeks a Lipidomics Senior Scientist to advance research in metabolic diseases, ASCVD and CHIP. This role requires application of advanced mass spectrometry to uncover disease biology, and to identify and validate therapeutic targets. Responsibilities include maintaining lab excellence, communicating findings internally and externally, supporting technological and methodological innovation, and collaborating to interpret multi ‘omics data. In addition to drug discovery interests, publication in high-impact journals and presentation of research is encouraged. The candidate will have daily interactions with a team of creative and innovative scientists in a supportive environment for rigorous scientific and drug development training. Strong self-motivation, extensive mass spectrometry experience, excellent communication interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are essential.
What You Will Achieve
In this role, you will:
Design and collaboratively execute in vitro and in vivo lipidomics experiments across ASCVD and metabolic indications to drive decision-making, uncover pathogenic disease biology, and identify new therapeutic targets
Seek out, propose and implement cutting-edge mass spectrometry technology for qualitative and quantitative analysis of endogenous lipids
Internalize, optimize and implement new sample preparation procedures in step with advancing industry and academic standards
Advance the integration ion mobility, gas, and liquid chromatography, keeping the lab at the forefront of advances in separation sciences
Educate and promote the interrogation of lipid biology in the study of Internal Medicine Research Unit (IMRU) priority diseases including ASCVD, obesity, sarcopenia, and Clonal hematopoiesis of indeterminate potential
Develop and apply LCMS methods to acquire, analyze and interpret lipiodomics data.
Collaborate with computational biologists to integrate lipidomics with other ‘omics data
Maintain and troubleshoot LCMS instrumentation
Actively participate in scientific discussions within and outside Pfizer by attending conferences, presenting work, and publishing in high-impact journals.
Qualifications
Must Have
Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field with 0 to 4 years of applied mass spectrometry metabolomics/lipidomic, OR MS with 7 to 8 years of applied mass spectrometry metabolomics/lipidomic experience
Deep understanding of fundamentals of separation science including liquid and gas
Extensive experience operating modern HRAM platforms and associated data analysis package
Proficiency in LCMS method development and fit-for-purpose validation
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively to achieve results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Strong problem-solving skills
Ability to foster a culture that values scientific excellence, urgency, and partnerships with key stakeholders
Nice to Have
Experience integrating AI/ML with data processing
Hands on experience applying Bruker and Thermo MS instrumentation to analyze lipids
Ion mobility experience
Stable isotope tracing experience
Demonstrated mentoring and leadership skills
