Senior Robotic Sensor Engineer

Target hire: Jan 2026

The Dexterous AI Group (DAG) is seeking a Senior Robotic Sensor Engineer for sensor and hardware development. The candidate will own critical pieces of ADI’s tactile sensing and dexterous hand solution, from building prototypes to on-robot validation, and support the hardware team to make sensor systems reliable, manufacturable, and ready for integration on humanoid platforms. Depth in either sensor electronics or material/flexible electronics is preferred.

Responsibilities include:

  • Translate robotic manipulation requirements into clear specs and testable prototypes for tactile sensing modules.
  • Design, build, and iterate sensor hardware: sensing device and process, packaging, and readout (AFE/ADC/conditioning) circuits.
  • Develop fixtures, calibration flows, and test plans; characterize linearity, repeatability, drift, bandwidth, latency, and noise floor.
  • Integrate on robot (hands/grippers/skins): bring-up, signal integrity, and real-time data paths; support closed-loop evaluations with AI-based controls/perception.
  • Own DFM/DFT decisions and supplier engagement; contribute to EVT→DVT readiness (materials/stack selection, sensor design, coatings/encapsulation).
  • Run reliability & environmental testing; perform failure analysis and root-cause.
  • Maintain high-quality documentation and communicate trade-offs and next steps clearly.

Qualifications:

  • MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related; 5–8+ years hands-on in hardware/sensors/sensor fabrication and manufacturing.
  • Proven delivery of electromechanical sensor or flexible-electronic devices
  • Proficient in analog front ends / mixed-signal readout (AFE/ADC)
  • Proficient in flexible electronics & material engineering (polymers/elastomers, printed/thin-film layers), encapsulation/overmold/coatings, adhesion/barriers.
  • FEA (mechanical/electrical) or materials/process modeling.
  • Calibration & data analysis (proficient in Python); building automated test scripts and reports.
  • Strong ownership, crisp technical writing, and cross-functional collaboration.
