Position Summary

The Department of Entomology within the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences seeks a Senior Research Technician to join a dynamic and collaborative research environment. This position will be based in the laboratory of Dr. Sarah Short and will contribute to an NIH-funded R01 study focused on understanding the interplay between microbiota and life history traits in male Aedes aegypti mosquitoes.

This role offers the opportunity to play a key part in laboratory and project management, experimental research, and team leadership, with strong potential for professional development and first-author publication.

Key Responsibilities

Manage day-to-day laboratory operations, including inventory, ordering, and maintenance
Provide project management support for NIH-funded research initiatives
Design and conduct laboratory experiments related to molecular biology, microbiology, and vector biology
Train and mentor laboratory personnel, including students and research assistants
Manage data collection, organization, curation, and documentation
Ensure compliance with biosafety protocols and regulatory requirements
Contribute to research dissemination, including opportunities for project leadership and first‑author publications
Collaborate effectively with faculty, researchers, and staff within a team-based environment

Required Skills and Competencies

Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative research team
Attention to detail and strong data management practices
Commitment to laboratory safety and best practices

Preferred Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree preferred
Experience in molecular biology, vector biology, and/or microbiology preferred

Minimum Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required
- 4 years of relevant experience with High School diploma or GED
- 2 years of relevant experience with Associate’s Degree
- 0 years of relevant experience with Bachelor’s Degree
