Position Summary

The Department of Entomology within the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences seeks a Senior Research Technician to join a dynamic and collaborative research environment. This position will be based in the laboratory of Dr. Sarah Short and will contribute to an NIH-funded R01 study focused on understanding the interplay between microbiota and life history traits in male Aedes aegypti mosquitoes.

This role offers the opportunity to play a key part in laboratory and project management, experimental research, and team leadership, with strong potential for professional development and first-author publication.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day laboratory operations, including inventory, ordering, and maintenance
  • Provide project management support for NIH-funded research initiatives
  • Design and conduct laboratory experiments related to molecular biology, microbiology, and vector biology
  • Train and mentor laboratory personnel, including students and research assistants
  • Manage data collection, organization, curation, and documentation
  • Ensure compliance with biosafety protocols and regulatory requirements
  • Contribute to research dissemination, including opportunities for project leadership and first‑author publications
  • Collaborate effectively with faculty, researchers, and staff within a team-based environment

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Experience in molecular biology, vector biology, and/or microbiology preferred

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required
    • 4 years of relevant experience with High School diploma or GED
    • 2 years of relevant experience with Associate’s Degree
    • 0 years of relevant experience with Bachelor’s Degree

The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit’s available budget, and the candidate’s qualifications
