We’re seeking a sharp, motivated, and experienced Senior Reporter to drive daily lifestyle coverage with creativity, speed, and insight, helping take the vertical to the next level. Reporting to the Lifestyle Editor, you’ll play a key role in shaping the day’s stories - pitching original ideas, jumping on trends, and delivering smart, engaging, and impactful reporting.
As a core member of our lifestyle team, you will cover the conversations everyday Australians are having - from real-life stories and internet debates to human angles behind major news events. You’ll uncover the moments, people, and cultural shifts that resonate online, and translate them into compelling journalism that connects deeply with our audience.
Topics include:
Real-life stories that spotlight everyday Aussies and the issues shaping their lives.
Trending topics and online debates that capture national attention across socials.
Human-interest angles on major news events, adding empathy, curiosity, and context.
Lifestyle trends across relationships, family, wellbeing, internet culture, consumer habits, and more.
You’ll collaborate closely with editors and fellow reporters to produce high-quality content that reflects our editorial vision and meets audience needs. The ideal candidate is someone who understands the pace of digital media and the power of a great angle.

Skills and Experience required

You should be confident in pitching, reporting, and crafting timely, engaging stories across lifestyle verticals - while maintaining a keen eye for emerging trends and the conversations gaining traction across social media, search, and the broader cultural landscape.
Responsibilities:
Pitch, research, and write original, high-quality stories that strengthen Yahoo Lifestyle’s authority in trending topics and position us as a trusted destination for engaging digital content.
Apply strong SEO practices to maximise story visibility and reach, ensuring content performs effectively across search and discovery platforms.
Pursue distinctive angles and fresh narratives that make Yahoo Lifestyle’s journalism stand out in a crowded digital landscape.
Keep the audience front and centre of every story - identify the ‘user need’ you’re addressing and craft content that delivers clear value.
Track and interpret performance metrics to understand what resonates, using insights to refine pitches and guide future coverage.
Contribute to editorial planning, participating in weekly news meetings and helping shape both daily coverage and longer-term projects.
Collaborate with audience and platform teams to optimise distribution - across newsletters, social media, video, and curation - to ensure stories reach and engage readers wherever they are.
Job Requirements
5+ years of experience in digital journalism, ideally within news, lifestyle, or culture.
Strong editorial judgment and a proven portfolio of engaging, high-quality digital reporting.
A sharp eye for what’s trending - able to identify stories and angles that resonate with online audiences.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to tell stories that inform, inspire, and connect.
Professional, adaptable, and collaborative, thriving in a fast-paced, creative newsroom environment.
Passion for innovative digital storytelling, from social-first formats to emerging multimedia opportunities.
Flexibility to work occasional nights or weekends as news and cultural moments demand.
