What you’ll be doing
As a Senior Relationship Manager, you will focus on building and growing relationships with middle market and large corporate clients. You will utilize your strong track record of success in the upper middle market — particularly with businesses generating $50 million -$1 billion or more in annual revenue — in addition to your experience with core C&I middle market deals. You’ll be responsible for developing your own portfolio of clients, building relationships from the ground up through proactive business development efforts. Through regular contact and strategic guidance, you will help clients achieve their business goals while supporting CIBC’s growth.
At CIBC, we provide a flexible work environment to help you thrive. You’ll have the ability to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement, balancing on-site and remote work as required by business needs.
How you’ll succeed
Relationship building: Develop new client relationships through business development activities, leveraging referral sources, existing clients, and centers of influence. Actively monitor and manage these relationships by fully understanding our clients’ goals, purpose, and business status.
Business development: Create and drive strategies to acquire, expand, and retain client relationships, generating revenue and deepening share of wallet.
Collaboration: Work with Associates, Senior Associates, Credit and Services teams, and deal teams to execute client requests efficiently and support closing activities.
Client experience: Proactively assess client needs and propose tailored solutions. Interact with assigned clients to ensure prompt responses to questions, enquiries, or issues, delivering best-in-class service. Apply industry and company knowledge to develop client and prospect proposals for financial and strategic solutions.
Deal presentations: Write up initial deal screens for new transaction opportunities; assist and direct team portfolio team members on drafting of full loan presentations/credit approval memos. Present deal recommendations to line of business and credit risk management executives.
Portfolio management: Provide direction to Associates and Senior Associates in preparing internal portfolio monitoring reports and respond to approval requests for overdrafts, manual wires, NSF wires, ACH suspensions, and more.
Risk management: Understand the key parameters of CIBC’s risk appetite, maintain regular client dialogue to assess financial performance changes, and coordinate with Portfolio Managers to recommend adjustments to risk ratings. Actively identify and mitigate regulatory, reputational, operational, and credit risks.
Who you are
Client-focused: You put clients first, engaging with purpose to find the right solutions and going the extra mile because it’s the right thing to do.
Industry Experience: You have 10 - 20 years of experience in commercial middle market and/or mid-corporate banking, including success with upper middle-market clients and businesses with $100 million or more in annual revenue. You are skilled in loan structuring, business development, and have a solid understanding of financial statements and accounting principles, including valuation techniques and cash flow analysis. You have managed the credit quality of a portfolio of commercial banking clients with credit needs.
Educational background: You have a bachelor’s degree (preferred) or diploma in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field. Completion of a Commercial Banking Training Program or equivalent is desirable.
Ownership mindset: You act like an owner, thriving when empowered to take initiative, go above and beyond, and deliver results.
