Position Overview
The Cybersecurity Project Manager leads & manages cross-functional security initiatives that reduce risk and strengthen Zelis’ security posture across people, process, and technology. This role partners closely with Security, Technology, Privacy, Legal, Product, and Delivery teams to plan and execute cybersecurity programs across multiple systems and stakeholders.Key Responsibilities (What You’ll Do)
· Lead moderately to highly complex cybersecurity projects involving multiple systems, teams, vendors, or departments (e.g., IAM, security tooling deployments, vulnerability remediation programs, audit readiness workstreams, controls automation).
· Define project scope, objectives, success criteria, and measurable outcomes in collaboration with stakeholders; translate security requirements into actionable delivery plans.
· Manage cross-functional teams and coordinate dependencies across parallel workstreams (Security Engineering, GRC, Infrastructure, App teams, Data, Vendor partners).
· Build and manage end-to-end plans, including schedule, cost, resourcing, RAID logs, milestone tracking, and executive-ready status reporting.
· Implement change control and stakeholder governance to manage scope creep, ensure prioritization, and maintain delivery commitments.
· Facilitate stakeholder engagement and manage expectations throughout the lifecycle, including steering committee updates and decision/risk escalation paths.
· Conduct risk assessments for delivery and security outcomes; develop mitigation strategies and contingency plans.
· Ensure delivery aligns with internal governance, security, and audit requirements, including work that supports frameworks and compliance expectations (e.g., HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC, NIST CSF, ISO 27001, PCI as applicable).
· Drive continuous improvement in cybersecurity project execution (templates, playbooks, metrics, retrospectives), and support adoption of repeatable delivery standards.
Professional Experience
7+ years of project/program management experience, with 3+ years leading cybersecurity / information security initiatives in a complex enterprise environment.
Proven experience delivering projects across Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid methodologies; able to tailor delivery approach to security and audit constraints.
Good understanding of governance and risk concepts, and ability to communicate risk clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Proficiency in using AI tools skillfully (prompting, creating reusable prompt patterns and/or lightweight agents) to accelerate planning, analysis, documentation, and reporting.
Comfortable presenting work to department leadership and partnering with external consultants/auditors as needed (consistent with Zelis role expectations).
Education
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred. (Experience level expected: 7+ years overall)
Ongoing participation in role-relevant training and professional development.
Required Certification
PMP (or equivalent project management certification) required.
Preferred Certifications (Cybersecurity)
One or more of the following preferred, especially for regulated healthcare environments:
CISSP, CISM, CRISC, CISA
ISO 27001 Lead Auditor/Implementer
HITRUST certifications (e.g., CCSFP/CHQP)
Work Environment
Works across time zones and multiple stakeholder groups; may support after-hours coordination for critical security milestones as needed.
Requires strong organizational, communication, and documentation discipline.
