Job Summary:

The Senior Project Manager (SPM) is a strategic leader responsible for planning, executing, and delivering complex data and analytics initiatives. This role requires strong project management expertise, familiarity with modern data platforms and analytics tools, and the ability to operate in an Agile environment. The SPM will partner with business stakeholders, data engineers, analysts, and product owners to ensure successful delivery of projects that enable data-driven decision-making across the enterprise.

Primary Job Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Delivery

  • Lead end-to-end delivery of data and analytics projects, ensuring scope, timeline, and budget adherence.

  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, resource allocations, and risk mitigation strategies using tools like Microsoft Project and Azure DevOps.

  • Drive Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, retrospectives, stand-ups) and foster a culture of iterative delivery.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as the primary liaison between business units and technical teams to align priorities and expectations.

  • Facilitate workshops to gather requirements and translate them into actionable deliverables.

Data & Analytics Expertise

  • Understand core data concepts, including data modeling, governance, and integration patterns.

  • Collaborate with data engineers and analysts to ensure technical feasibility and alignment with enterprise architecture.

  • Support adoption of modern platforms (e.g., Microsoft Fabric, Power BI) and self-service analytics tools.

Multi-Hat Responsibilities

  • Serve as Scrum Master or Product Owner when needed to unblock delivery.

  • Assist with backlog prioritization and dependency management across multiple teams.

Reporting & Communication

  • Deliver executive-level status reports and dashboards on project health and KPIs.

  • Communicate risks, issues, and mitigation plans clearly to leadership and stakeholders.

  • Provides measurable input to new products, processes or standards in operational plans in order to implement operational objectives

Leadership & Talent Management: 

  • Typically responsible for providing guidance, coaching and training to other employees within job area.

  • Typically responsible for managing major/complex projects at this level, involving delegation of work and review of work products.

Knowledge & Experience: 

  • Requires deep knowledge of area typically obtained through higher education combined with experience.

  • Typically viewed as a subject matter expert within discipline.

  • May have broad knowledge of project or program management.

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.

  • Typically requires a university degree or equivalent experience and minimum 6-8 years of prior relevant experience.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Business, or related field; PMP or Agile certification (PMI-ACP, CSM) preferred.

  • 8+ years of experience in project management, with at least 3 years in data and analytics initiatives preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of Agile frameworks and project management tools (Azure DevOps, Jira, MS Project).

  • Familiarity with data platforms, BI tools (Power BI), and cloud technologies (Azure preferred).

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Experience with DataOps practices and enterprise-scale data modernization projects.

  • Working knowledge of SQL and ability to interpret technical documentation is preferred.

Required Licensing, Registration and/or Certifications

  • PMI-PMP, PMI-ACP, PMI-PfMP, PMI-PgMP or recognized equivalent required
