Senior Product Manager - eCommerce

Auckland Full Time

Shape the future of payments in Aotearoa

At Paymark, we’ve been powering payments in New Zealand since 1989 — launching EFTPOS and becoming a trusted part of everyday commerce. Today, our eCommerce gateway processes 60+ million transactions every year, sitting at a pivotal moment in its evolution.

We’re looking for an exceptional Senior Product Manager to lead this portfolio through its next phase — someone who thrives in complexity, is energised by real ownership, loves leading a team and wants to make a tangible impact on a platform used nationwide.

Why this role matters

If you're looking for a role that is primarily strategy focused with delivery largely delegated, this is not the role for you.

You’ll own both the direction and the delivery — leading a critical platform, shaping its future, and staying close enough to the detail to make it happen. You’ll also play a key role in evolving how product operates at Paymark.

If you love being in the work, not just adjacent to it, this is your kind of role.

What you’ll do

Own and lead a high-impact portfolio

  • Lead the end-to-end performance of our eCommerce gateway, spanning multiple product streams
  • Shape strategy alongside the Head of Online Payments
  • Co-develop business cases and contribute to investment decisions
  • Represent the portfolio in senior commercial discussions.

Be hands-on in delivery

  • We don't currently have dedicated Product Owners, so you'll own backlog, refinement, and prioritisation directly.
  • Stay close to sprint-level execution — not just steering from afar
  • Make smart trade-offs to keep momentum across the platform.

Lead and grow a diverse team

  • Manage a team of five across product analysis and customer support
  • Coach, challenge, and develop individuals at different stages of their careers
  • Create a team that balances deep product thinking with real customer insight.

Partner to win

  • Work closely with your Tech Lead, Agile Delivery Lead, and Solutions Architect — alignment across this group is critical
  • Collaborate across sales, commercial, legal, and service delivery teams
  • Engage with banks and third-party suppliers across the payments ecosystem.

Get products to market

  • Lead go-to-market activity with sales and marketing
  • Support customer conversations and ensure operational readiness
  • Own outcomes — not just outputs

Champion an AI-first mindset

  • Instinctively reach for AI in how you think, work, and solve problems
  • Lift your team's fluency and set the standard for AI-first ways of working and for what an AI-enabled product team looks like

Stay deeply connected to customers

  • Work closely with Account Managers and Service Delivery Managers as your day-to-day window into merchants and engage directly when it matters.
  • Build a strong understanding of merchants’ needs, pain points, and goals
  • Use insights to shape roadmap and prioritisation
  • Be the voice of eCommerce in exec and quarterly forums.

What will make you successful

You’re someone who can operate at altitude and in the weeds — often in the same day.

You’ll need:

  • Product management experience across complex products or platforms
  • Experience leading teams
  • A track record of working across strategy and delivery simultaneously
  • Agile software delivery experience
  • Strong tooling capability (JIRA, Power BI, Microsoft Office)
  • Comfort working in evolving, ambiguous environments.

Nice to have:

  • Background in payments, eCommerce, or financial services
  • Experience in a Tech Lead / Architect / Agile Delivery leadership model
  • Leading mixed teams (product + support functions)
  • Relevant tertiary qualification.

Why join us?

You’ll enjoy:

  • Hybrid working and regular connection and wellbeing/culture events
  • A new Auckland CBD office with harbour views, on‑site café, bar and gym
  • Subsidised massage therapy — yes, really
  • Bonus potential
  • A strong rewards and recognition programme
  • A people‑first culture with genuine flexibility and trust

We’re proud to be recognised as a Top Employer, Great Place to Work, and winner of Small Workplace of the Year at the HeadFit Awards, so you know you’re joining an epic work team.
