The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

As a Senior Product Development Engineer (m/f/*) at Displays and Electronics Product Platform Auto Lab, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world.

Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Developing state of the art optical films for automotive application such as glazing and displays.
  • Designing laboratory experiments and simulations to prove or discard working hypotheses, perform root cause analysis, support problem solving process, evaluate performance vs. customer requirements or product optimization.
  • Using appropriate data analysis techniques and tools to evaluate experimental, simulation or field results and data, producing deep, accurate and reliable fact-based reports and presentations. Communicating those results and analysis to relevant stakeholders.
  • Establishing and cultivating an extensive network of support within the company and through continuous interactions with outside organizations and partners.
  • Frequently interacting with customers to better understand customer requirements, processes and applications.
  • Contributing to technology scouting and product roadmaps.
  • Supporting and leading cross-functional teams, collaborating with R&D, sales, marketing, and production teams to provide technical guidance and support, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and with the highest quality.

Your Skills and Expertise 

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M is looking for candidates who meet following minimum requirements:

  • Master's degree in relevant engineering, physics, optics or other scientific field from an accredited institution.
  • Substantial experience in optical systems, or automotive/aerospace glazing or displays, especially in product development or R&D.
  • Deep understanding of optical physics and experience with optical laboratory equipment, measurement and characterization and test methods development.
  • Good knowledge of Design of Experiments and strong data analysis capabilities, including but not limited to statistical software use.
  • Fluent in English and German.

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • PhD. degree in relevant engineering, physics, optics or other scientific field from an accredited institution.
  • Good photography and image quality understanding and processing skills.
  • Ability to write image processing related code in Phyton or other equivalent programming language would be highly helpful.
  • Deep understanding of automotive glazing quality and optical concepts, typical requirements, standards, metrics and measurement devices.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes relevant to automotive glazing or displays, such as lamination, glass processing, or coating technologies.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills with experience in cross-functional, global organizations.

  • Location: Neuss, Germany.
  • Based on site.
  • Full time.
  • Travel: may include up to 15%
