Ameresco is currently seeking a Senior Process Engineer to join our Alternative Fuels team. This position is responsible for providing direction, support and resources to the gas processing plants to ensure downtime is minimized, and optimization and production goals are met.
Responsibilities:
Design and Procurement: Perform design calculations and prepare equipment specifications; Solicit bids from equipment suppliers and assist in procurement of mechanical equipment and instrumentation; Design LFGTE plants and high RNG facilities to include GA layout, PFD, PIDs, BOM, 2D bid drawings, routing/piping subsystem, and construction drawings.
Process Planning: Plan, develop, direct, and coordinate gas processes.
Technology Evaluation: Evaluate technological needs and integrate them into gas processing plants.
Quality Assurance: Stop or postpone gas processing if quality or regulatory concerns arise and coordinate resolution; Collaborate with personnel at gas processing plants to troubleshoot issues and develop maintenance practices.
Investigations and Reports: Conduct process and production failure investigations; Implement corrective actions and prepare reports to communicate problem/resolution/progress.
Engineering Support: Provide engineering support to operations (LFGTE and RNG plants) in design, instrumentation, and maintenance; Collaborate with all engineering disciplines and operations staff to understand processes and provide design input.
Process Improvement: Develop, evaluate, and improve gas processing methods; Modify processes to enhance safety, product quality, and cost efficiency.
Documentation and Communication: Create accurate P&ID drawings, BOMs, and other engineering documentation; Compile quality data, establish regular communication, and facilitate action plans for continuous improvement; Create project specifications along with Instrumentation specifications, MOC and SOPs.
Safety and Decision-Making: Analyze workforce utilization, space requirements, and workflow; Design layouts for equipment and workspace efficiency.
Technical Competence: Make decisions on proper equipment selection and application; Consider cost, value, application suitability, safety, and reliability.
Knowledge and Collaboration: Maintain knowledge of industry standards (ASME, AGA, API, AISC, OSHA, ASTM); Collaborate with outside vendors, contractors, and design teams to meet project specifications and deadlines.
Mentorship: Act as a mentor to Process Engineers within the Alternative Fuels business unit.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, process engineering or a related discipline.
Minimum of seven (7) years related work experience in landfill gas to energy, high BTU/RNG, oil refinery, chemical process, and/or gas process.
Additional Qualifications:
Professional Engineer (PE) License is preferred.
Technical experience with gas processing using membrane, pressure swing adsorption, and solvent adsorption processes or gas compression equipment and/or flare and thermal oxidizers is desired.
Knowledge and understanding of Internal Combustion Engine (ICE), crankcase ventilation system, compressors/blowers, expansion joints and HVAC systems.
Knowledge and understanding of fluid flow principles, thermal systems, mechanical design, and structural analysis.
Ability to use AutoCAD for creating process block diagrams, P&IDs, and control philosophy for landfill gas to energy facilities (LFGTE) and renewable natural gas (RNG) facilities.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
Proficient with current Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
Working knowledge of data collection, data analysis, evaluation, and scientific methods.
Working knowledge and understanding of the basic principles, theories, concepts, and practices in the applicable area of processing engineering/technical specialization.
Experience communicating accurately and frequently with supervisors, manager, and engineering team.
Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
The anticipated base salary range for this role is $97,400 - $169,250 (presented in good faith). In addition to base pay, employees receive a comprehensive benefits package, such as health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off, and may be eligible for performance incentives, bonuses, commissions, or equity, depending on the role.
Actual pay will depend on factors such as internal equity, skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. This range supports our commitment to pay transparency and compliance with applicable laws. Compensation may vary by work location, including remote arrangements.
