About the Role

OVERVIEW

The Private Credit Valuation Analyst candidate will play an important role in analyzing complex private and illiquid credit securities to determine fair valuation. The determination of the fair value will require gathering and disseminating company financial information, performing primary fundamental research and analysis, reviewing third-party valuation recommendations, presenting recommendations to the Pricing Committee, and communicating recommendations to internal and external clients.

The ideal candidate is highly knowledgeable of the securities industry, has extensive credit analysis experience within the fixed income asset class particularly with a focus on private credit or similar category, has a strong understanding of financial statement analysis and valuation methodologies, is detail oriented, and works well independently as well as part of a team. The candidate should have either a CFA or MBA designation or should be working toward it.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Primary valuation coverage of hundreds of credit investments across Commercial Real Estate Debt, Investment Grade Private Credit, and Growth Lending funds
  • Perform independent valuation services across all private credit investments
    • Successful collaboration with and oversight of third-party providers on all private credit valuations
    • Building comprehensive valuation models based on fundamental research, company financials, quarterly board presentations, management calls, etc., to corroborate third-party provider recommendations and/or formulate Wellington’s own independent valuation recommendations
    • Reviewing various legal documents (Credit Agreements, SPAs, Charters, ROFRs, M&A filings) to ensure rights, terms, and preferences of securities are reasonably and adequately valued
    • Conducting market research and analyzing industry trends
    • Support recommendations throughout audit cycles
  • Opportunity to design and implement valuation policies and controls for new and existing private credit funds, including Commercial Real Estate Debt, Growth Lending, and IG Private Credit funds
  • Strong focus on automation initiatives to allow scale and efficiency across the Private Credit platform
  • Develop relationships with Wellington investors, outsourced providers, and management teams at portfolio companies
  • Formulate new as well as update existing fair value recommendations, which may require both creative and in-depth analysis and valuation methodologies
  • Prepare, review, and present fair value recommendations, fair value policies, and company updates to various stakeholders across Wellington, including the Pricing Committee, auditors, and deal teams
  • Collaborate with various groups throughout the firm including portfolio managers, fixed income traders, industry analysts, internal counsel, global relationship management, securities valuation team, and the alternatives/hedge fund administration group
  • Research and resolve client inquiries timely, thoroughly, and accurately
  • Stay abreast of SEC and regulatory fair value requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4-7 years of applicable industry experience including company valuation and credit analysis
  • Superior understanding of financial statement analysis and valuation methods
  • Advanced knowledge of fixed income instruments, experience within the private credit and commercial real estate debt asset classes a plus
  • Ability to leverage strong technical and data skills, such as SQL, PowerBI, Tableau, Excel macros & AI, to improve valuation/operational processes
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills
  • Exhibits a proactive approach to problem identification and resolution
  • Highly analytical with strong attention to detail and time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible, self-directed, and think outside the box
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Designation or demonstrated progress toward CFA or MBA strongly preferred
  • Experience with market data providers such as Bloomberg, Markit, FactSet, CapIQ

Our approach to compensation considers all aspects of total compensation; all employees are eligible to receive salary, variable compensation, and benefits. The base salary range for this position is:

USD 90,000 - 180,000

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered when making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets; role; skills and experience; certifications; and education. This range is an estimate, and further details on salary and total compensation aspects will be shared with candidates during the recruitment process.   

 

Base salary is only one component of Wellington’s total compensation approach. Other rewards may include a discretionary Corporate Bonus and/ or Incentives, if eligible.
