We are seeking a Senior Principal Systems Engineer to lead a growing Data Analytics & Systems Engineering team within the Transformation & Initiatives (T&I) organization. This team supports Raytheon Missiles & Defense (RMD) programs by delivering advanced data analytics, ETL pipeline development, system-level data integration, and AI/ML‑enabled insights that modernize and optimize engineering processes across the enterprise.

This P5 leader will oversee a team of data‑driven systems engineers who perform ETL pipeline maintenance, program analytics, dashboarding, requirements integration, and engineering decision-support. The successful candidate will provide technical direction, mentorship, strategic guidance, and cross-functional leadership while driving modernization initiatives across radar, sensor, and weapon system programs. This position is located onsite in Lexington Park, MD.

What You Will Do

As the technical and team leader, you will:

  • Lead a team of systems engineers specializing in data engineering, analytics, and AI/ML-enabled decision support across multiple Raytheon programs.
  • Architect, oversee, and improve ETL pipelines, data models, and analytics workflows used for engineering decisions, program reporting, and performance trending.
  • Guide the development of dashboards, analytical tools, and automated data products using technologies such as Python, SQL, Snowflake, ClickHouse, and Superset/Power BI/Tableau.
  • Provide technical leadership in system-level data integration, ensuring consistency, traceability, and quality across engineering artifacts and program baselines.
  • Drive adoption of modern data practices, including predictive analytics, anomaly detection, NLP/Ambiguity assessment, and AI/ML-assisted workflows.
  • Collaborate with Program Managers, Chief Engineers, and cross-functional teams to translate complex data into actionable engineering and program insights.
  • Lead process-improvement initiatives that increase engineering efficiency, accuracy, and throughput across the T&I organization.
  • Support development and sustainment of program-level analytics capabilities, including data acquisition, synthetic data generation, and requirements-support tooling.
  • Ensure team alignment with Raytheon values, engineering rigor, and mission objectives.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM ) and a minimum of 10 years prior relevant experience in systems engineering, data engineering, data analytics, or a related technical field.
  • Experience leading technical teams or cross-functional engineering initiatives.
  • Hands-on experience with Python, SQL, and modern data analytics/ETL tools.
  • Experience with systems engineering fundamentals such as requirements traceability, system integration, and configuration management.
  • Experience analyzing large datasets and communicating results to engineering and program leadership.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
  • Experience developing and documenting engineering or analytics processes, methods, and tools.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of interfacing with engineering, program management, and external customers.

  • Experience with Snowflake, ClickHouse, Apache Superset, Power BI, Tableau, or similar enterprise analytics platforms.

  • Experience with AI/ML techniques for prediction, trend analysis, ambiguity detection, or automation.

  • Experience leading development of data pipelines, data governance strategies, or analytics frameworks.

  • Background in radar, sensors, command & control, or complex defense systems (desired but not required).

  • Experience mentoring or developing early-career engineers.

  • Active DoD Secret or Top Secret clearance.

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or related field.

The salary range for this role is 132,400 USD - 251,600 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
