Northrop Grumman is looking for a Senior Media Relations Representative to serve on a team that shapes and supports execution of company-level media strategies and supports the company’s senior- level enterprise-wide functional executive leaders.

This position is located at Northrop Grumman’s headquarters in Falls Church, VA. This is not a remote position.

Reporting to the Media Relations Manager, the Senior Media Relations Representative will execute proactive media outreach for a broad portfolio of priorities at the company level, write and edit external announcements, prepare and share responses to reporter inquiries, and shape and drive proactive media coverage including pitching interviews, roundtables, briefings, site visits, and more.

In this role, the Senior Media Relations Representative is expected to work independently, leading collaboration efforts with colleagues across the enterprise, providing strategic insights into the earned media narrative for the company’s most senior leaders, including the office of the CEO.  Demonstrated executive presence and the ability to deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines is a must.

This role will serve as the Media Strategy & Engagement representative and advisor for two high-priority Communications function initiatives: the Integrated Planning Team and Brand Editorial Board. In this capacity, the Senior Media Relations Representative will ensure that media engagement strategies are considered and coordinated as part of the development of the company’s communications strategies to support priority programs and efforts, including advocacy and stakeholder engagements.

The Senior Media Relations Representative also plays an integral role in the preparation and execution of the company’s quarterly earnings cycle, supporting the office of CEO, CFO and members of the Communications Leadership Team.

How you will make a difference:

  • Be an expert in the current news cycle, using big-picture thinking to proactively and rapidly identify opportunities to tell our enterprise story.

  • Effectively manage several projects at one time, leveraging project management tools to develop detailed plans to track progress to goals and proactively identify issues.

  • Build media engagements strategies for the company’s most senior leaders.

  • Support our growing international communications priorities, including bespoke events, international security forums and trade shows.

Skills for Success:

  • An ability to interact with executive leadership confidently and independently

  • Experience demonstrating strategic thinking, planning and decision-making

  • Effective AP writing and editing skills, with an ability to draft all types of news content from news releases and news features to long form articles for placement on owned channels

  • Ability to lead media training, messaging sessions and external media engagements and identify opportunities with news cycles to advance company thought leadership in priority focus areas

  • Comfort with change in a fast-paced, empowered work environment with strong collaboration and alignment to company priorities

  • A commitment to quality work and accountability for results

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 8 years of relevant experience OR Master's degree with 6 years of relevant experience

  • Experience in a medium to large-sized communications organization, Capitol Hill or Executive Branch Cabinet – level public affairs office, public relations firm or media company

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Associated Press style writing

  • Strong writing and editing skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a large, matrixed and/or geographically dispersed organization

  • Experience working in a Capitol Hill or Executive Branch Cabinet-level public affairs office

  • Demonstrated experience with media monitoring & measurement tools

  • Familiarity with defense and aerospace industry reporters

Primary Level Salary Range: $117,500.00 - $176,300.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
