The Mechanical engineering team leads in mechanical hardware design, development, and production. The Mechanical team uses state-of the-art tools, processes, technology, and Six Sigma principles. Capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, manufacturing, technical services, materials, processes, analysis, test, and documentation.

The Shipboard Effectors Department is currently searching for an experienced Senior Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to work on a team in support of the production of Shipboard Effectors products and subsystems located in Tucson, AZ or Huntsville, AL.

This position requires a strong, dynamic leader to serve as an Engineering Tech Lead supporting the Standard Missile portfolio for the Navy. This leader will partner with OCE to ensure ‘technical conscience of the missile’ in Program/Customer engagement providing sound rationale, striving for root cause and corrective action in problem solving. Candidate will work closely with Integrated Product Team Leads/Program Managers to ensure that engineering requirements are defined, risks are managed, and schedules/budgets are met. Candidate will ensure Technical Data Packages are maintained and updated as necessary. Decisions must be data driven in nature and require preparing technical justification analysis reports as well as presenting to a variety of Engineering Review Boards. Experience with hardware integration and test, root cause and corrective action and failure investigation principals are strongly desired.

What You Will Do:

  • Manage projects associated with mitigation of obsolescence issues across the Standard Missile portfolio including reviewing trade studies, identification of suitable alternate and interchangeable materials, or design changes as needed
  • Establish and maintain product vision, strategy, and goals to align with multiple contracts and facilitate production line conflict resolution with respect to schedule impacts
  • Lead teams of engineers in support of hardware development and transition to production
  • Ensure technical integrity and engineering execution across the IPTs and other functions to meet cost, schedule, and technical requirements
  • Regularly interface with program and portfolio leads as well as Customer(s)
  • Support proposal efforts by determining technical scope and basis of estimates
  • Travel to suppliers and other Raytheon facilities as needed

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
  • Experience with Operations documentation (WKIs, TIs, TE prove-in, etc)
  • Project Management experience as technical leader of small teams of engineers
  • Must be willing to travel to suppliers and other Raytheon facilities as needed
  • Active DoD issued security clearance prior to the start date. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Twelve (12) years of directly related work experience in mechanical design and/or production support
  • Mechanical aptitude to provide solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity
  • Strong leadership skills and project management experience
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; both verbal and written
  • Proficient in Creo (modeling and drawing) and Windchill (PDM)
  • Experience with ERB/CCB process; CCB chair certification or ability to be certified
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and project management experience
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills; both verbal and written

The salary range for this role is 132,400 USD - 251,600 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
