About This Opportunity 

The School of Political Science and International Studies (POLSIS) is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Senior Principal Learning Designer to lead a major digital uplift of the Master of Governance and Public Policy,

Reporting to the Head of School and working in close partnership with academic staff, you will play a pivotal role in transforming a suite of online courses into a high-quality, engaging, and innovative learning experience for external students. You will bring expert knowledge of contemporary online pedagogy, digital platforms, and course design to enhance how content is delivered and how students interact with it.

Beyond course enhancement, you will also lead the design and delivery of a major project to redevelop a fully online Master’s program for launch in 2028. This initiative will reimagine the student experience, combining the School’s subject-matter expertise with interactive, participatory teaching approaches that foster connection, collaboration, and a strong online learning community.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead the design, development, and evaluation of innovative online teaching, curriculum, and assessment practices, while building capability in academic staff.

  • Drive the creation of tools, templates, and streamlined processes to enhance the quality and efficiency of online learning delivery.

  • Provide expert advice on educational technologies and emerging trends to support engaging, future-focused student learning experiences.

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to strengthen teaching and learning initiatives and enhance the overall student experience.  

  • Manage end-to-end teaching and learning projects, including planning, implementation, stakeholder engagement, and performance reporting.

About You

We are looking for an experienced and collaborative Senior Principal Learning Designer with skills relevant to online postgraduate learning. In addition, you will have:

  • Postgraduate qualifications or progress towards postgraduate qualifications in adult education; instructional, curriculum and/or systems design; technical writing or another discipline and extensive relevant experience; or extensive experience and management expertise; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.

  • Expertise and experience in the development of online resources informed by an understanding of how higher education students learn, with the ability to work across disciplinary boundaries to realise contemporary curriculum, pedagogy and assessment design.

  • The ability to provide leadership and practical support on technology-enabled approaches to curriculum, pedagogy and assessment to a variety of stakeholders, including partnering with and coaching senior leaders to deliver outcomes.

  • Strong communication and relationship‑building skills, with the capacity to work across disciplinary boundaries.

  • A background knowledge of public policy, political science or a cognate social science discipline is welcomed, but not required.
