The Effector RF Design department at Raytheon is seeking an innovative Senior Principal RF Engineer to lead radome/antenna and RF sensor test system development for advanced programs and hypersonic missile contracts. This role includes designing and qualifying radomes, implementing RF measurement systems, and managing upgrades to support development and production. You will also oversee a team of 15-20 engineers, acting as the hiring manager and providing functional leadership.

This position is onsite, located in Tucson, AZ.

What You Will Do:

  • Coordinate engineering activities to perform complex trade studies and create innovative radome and antenna designs for extreme environments.
  • Provide technical expertise for antenna and radome design, analysis, testing, and integration, ensuring alignment with program requirements.
  • Oversee radome and RF sensor measurement system design, validation, and verification processes.
  • Conduct root cause analyses and implement corrective actions for failure investigations.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and customers to procure and demonstrate advanced antenna and radome capabilities.
  • Represent programs at supplier reviews, customer meetings, and technical engagements.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Act as hiring manager by reviewing resumes, conducting preliminary interviews, and supporting the hiring process.
  • Manage and develop team members, ensuring compliance with company policies and supporting department-level initiatives.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of engineering experience, OR and advanced degree in a related field and 8 years of engineering experience in two or more of the following:
    • Antenna and/or radome design for airborne applications
    • Experience in RF sensor measurement chamber design, implementation oversight, and/or troubleshooting.
    • Experience leading teams of 15+ people
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government-issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Advanced design experience with RF-specific products, including antennas, missile bodies, radomes, and/or RF sensor test chambers.
  • Master of Science (MS) in STEM related field
  • Experience serving in technical leadership roles such as Responsible Engineering Authority (REA), Control Account Manager (CAM), and/or Integrated Product Team Lead (IPTL).
  • Proven expertise in supplier management for build-to-print or build-to-specification RF products and test solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience delivering presentations to leadership and customers.
  • Strong understanding of failure investigation processes, including root cause identification and corrective action implementation.
  • Experience designing for manufacturability, producibility, and cost optimization.
  • Familiarity with hypersonic environments and associated design challenges.

The salary range for this role is 124,000 USD - 250,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
