What is the opportunity?

Our RBC Accounting Services team is continuing to grow as we manage our business demands. We are looking to fill a full-time role of Senior Payments Officer on our Accounts Payable Payments Team.

As a Senior Payments Officer, you will be responsible for problem identification and resolution for accounts payable payments activities and functions. Acts as a liaison to business partners/business units for problem resolution, service quality activities and initiative implementation. Acts as subject matter expert for vendor and business partner care issues, identifying continuous improvement opportunities, developing action plans and solutions. Provides support to Payment Resolution Officers for escalations on payment transactions .

What will you do? 

  • Support and coach on payments transactions and processes upon escalation of issues by payment officers or by business.
  • Complete review and approval of payment transactions.
  • Responsible for the identification and resolution of complex issues and concerns at the first point of contact, taking a long-term perspective in addressing vendor/BU concerns by identifying root cause of issues and action plans to resolve.  
  • Responsible for timely and accurate resolution and tracking of issues including aging.
  • Act as SME for accounts payable system processes and controls ensuring compliance with policies and procedures
  • Deliver high quality service to RBC partners, including adherence to agreed upon service levels (SLA’s)
  • Demonstrate a continuous improvement mindset by proactively identifying, recommending and helping implement solutions to recurring errors, service gaps and process efficiency and effectiveness enhancements.
  • Exercises due diligence in following operational risk policies, procedures, standards and guidelines.
  • This role is responsible to provide input and revisions on documentation as it relates to SOPs.
  • Assist in reviews of transactions/reports/documents to ensure compliance/adherence with policies/procedures/guidelines (SOX, G/L attestation, EUC, Enterprise G/L Attestation policy and APG)
  • Helping and coaching day-to-day Payment Processors and BUs
  • Supervising that internal controls are followed on timely manners
  • Implement process improvements and controls
  • Helping prepare reporting and audit.
  • Assisting on various ad-hoc asks/projects

What do you need to succeed?

Must Have

  • 3+ years of operations experience in a financial sector environment
  • Finance or Accounting degree
  • Knowledge of Accounts Payable processes
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills and ability to prioritize activities to ensure objectives are met
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite of applications, intermediate to advanced excel
  • Knowledge of all Regulatory and Compliance rules, Internal Audit reviews

Nice to Have

  • Experience with GP, RIBS, RIMMS, T24, PeopleSoft & eGL systems, SAP, BTS.
  • Exposure to Lean Six Sigma (LSS) or process improvement
  • University or college degree in accounting, finance, business preferred
