Senior Paralegal

US-DC-Washington Full time

Job duties:

  • Position is on-site at the customer location in Washington, DC.
  • Works under the direction of a Project Manager, Supervisory Paralegal, DOJ administrator or a Project Supervisor. 
  • Supports a fast-moving litigation environment supporting multiple cases in discovery which includes handling of evidence and chain of custody requirements.
  • Supports pre-indictment activities including database searches, reporting status to case team.
  • Must have experience supporting data management within Relativity workspaces (multiple cases).
  • May require outside collaboration with other agencies outside of DOJ.
  • Requires collaboration and support of multiple trial teams and multiple litigation case teams.
  • Work products are reviewed prior to submission; however, often develops these products with minimal direct supervision other than written guidelines. 
  • In addition to functions performed by Paralegals, described below, performs moderately complex legal research; synopsizes transcripts of hearings and oral arguments for attorney use; reviews case related materials and, for example, identifies potentially conflicting statements or areas requiring further investigation; writes preliminary drafts of simple legal memoranda and correspondence. 
  • Performs the following tasks:  compiles, prepares, and summarizes relevant materials for use by attorneys in discovery and in preparation of motions, briefs and other legal documents; summarizes depositions and other transcripts; maintains case files; indexes, tracks and controls document discovery (including documents produced and received in discovery); indexes, tracks and exhibits and other materials at depositions and at trial. 
  • Prepares exhibit cross-references. 
  • Assists attorneys in courtroom. 
  • Reviews documents for relevance and privilege according to established guidelines and criteria.
  • Other examples of the types of work to be performed include compilation of documents for FOIA, production requests, Congressional inquiries, etc.
  • Travel may be required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Requires paralegal certificate, or JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one  (1) year of study, or an equivalent level five (5) four (4) years of legal training or experience ; or an equivalent level of education may be substituted   Additionally at least two (2) years of litigation paralegal experience or project experience (as related to the task order) is required. 
  • Strong Discovery management skills are required--supporting data management in Relativity, evidence tracking and general discovery status reporting are required.
  • At least one year of experience in automated litigation support. 
  • Requires sound working knowledge of federal and state court system, legal research procedures, and legal research resources. 
  • Requires excellent written and oral communication skills and thorough knowledge of legal research tools.
  • Must have hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.  
  • Role also requires hands-on familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources. 
  • Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure will be very important. 
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain MRPT facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for MRPT facility credentials/authorization at this work location

*Employees will earn H&W dollars per eligible hour (including vacation and holiday up to 40 hours/week). H&W monies are used to offset the employer’s cost of benefits the employee elects into and/or utilizes. Any remaining health and welfare monies after all applicable deductions would be cashed out to the employee on a 1 pay period lag.  

       

Service Contract Act (SCA) Compensation & Benefits:

This is an hourly, overtime-eligible position that falls under the Service Contract Act (SCA). In accordance with the Health and Welfare provisions of the SCA, and in addition to your base hourly rate, you may be eligible to receive an additional health and welfare payment for each hour you work to ensure compliance with the minimums set forth by the act. The amount you are entitled to receive will vary depending upon the fringe benefits you select now and in the future.

       

Compensation Details:

$38.77
