Job Description:

Senior Character Artist - Creatures (Sr or above)

Elsewhere Entertainment is seeking a Senior (or above) Character Artist – Creatures to support the development of a new IP. Bring your creativity to a collaborative team of experienced developers to build something innovative and engaging.

As a member of the Art department, you will be at the forefront of defining and shaping our game's iconic creatures. You will play a pivotal role in bringing our game world to life through your exceptional creature design and look development skills. If you're a creative artist with a strong technical background, a keen eye for detail, and a passion for gaming, this role offers the perfect opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking video game projects.

As a member of the project, you’ll help take the studio and our game from great to even better; with a focus on inclusivity, mutual respect (for ourselves and our players), thoughtfulness, empathy, professionalism, and collaboration.

This role is based in our Warsaw, Poland office and follows an onsite work schedule of four days per week. Work arrangements may change at the company's discretion to meet business needs.

You’ll help us by…

  • Acting as a key creative partner across Art, Design, and Development to align character and creature design with gameplay and narrative goals, while fostering a strong, collaborative dynamic with Concept Art throughout the visual development process.

  • Creating both high resolution 3D sculpts and final low polygon and textured game assets for highly creative characters and creatures.

  • Combining traditional hand-crafted art techniques with next gen physically based rendering (PBR) materials to create a unique visual style for characters and creatures.

  • Partnering with other artists, designers, and tech artists to collaborate on creative solutions to solve complex character pipeline problems and bring assets to life.

  • Collaborating closely with animation and rigging teams to ensure character designs are planned and executed properly.

  • Having a strong understanding of what “good” looks like, with a sharp eye for light, shading, color, and detail when creating texture maps. You also recognize the value of thoughtful presentation, ensuring your work is showcased clearly and at a quality level that reflects the craft behind it.

  • Assisting in leading efforts in testing and feedback processes to identify and address character-related issues, bugs, and improvements

You’re awesome because you have…

Strong portfolio showcasing your proficiency in creature art for video games, highlighting your ability to create diverse and compelling creatures.

Proficiency in industry-standard 3D modeling and texturing software (e.g., Maya, 3DS Max, Blender, ZBrush, Substance Painter/Designer).

Deep understanding of character and creature rigging principles, animation integration, and industry best practices in character and creature design, with the ability to proactively anticipate and solve downstream production challenges.

Bonus points for…

  • Hands-on knowledge of multiple modern real-time asset creation pipelines and tools.

  • Familiarity with blendshape-driven morph systems and transformation workflows for gameplay.

  • Experience working closely with rendering/graphics teams to refine materials and troubleshoot character presentations in real-time.

  • Also having skills and experience in related fields, like illustration, concept art, sculpting, animation etc.

  • Excellent artistic and design skills, including a keen eye for composition, color theory, and visual storytelling with a focus on characters and creatures.

  • Experience in muscle/fat simulation workflows.

  • Experience with hair and cloth simulation.
