FOX Television Stations owns and operates 29 full power broadcast television stations in the U.S. These include stations located in 14 of the top 15 largest designated market areas, or DMAs, and duopolies in 11 DMAs, including the three largest DMAs (New York, Los Angeles and Chicago). Of these stations, 18 are affiliated with the FOX Network. In addition to distributing sports, entertainment and syndicated content, our television stations collectively produce approximately 1,200 hours of local news every week. These stations leverage viewer, distributor and advertiser demand for the FOX Network’s national content.

JOB DESCRIPTION

KSAZ/KUTP is seeking a highly skilled Senior Operations Technician with 4 – 5+ years of experience in live broadcast operations at an advanced level.  This role is a key operational leader responsible for ensuring the seamless execution of newscasts and programming across both Production/Directing and Master Control environments. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in one core discipline—either live production/directing or Master Control—along with the initiative and adaptability to cross-train and grow across both areas. This position plays a critical role in maintaining broadcast quality, operational efficiency, and cross-department collaboration with Production, Engineering, and News teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Direct live and recorded newscasts and special programming using Sony ELC automation

  • Lead control room operations during live broadcasts with clear communication and precise timing

  • Partner with Producers to build and execute rundowns in iNews, including coding, camera blocking, and shot composition

  • Make fast, informed decisions during breaking news and high-pressure situations

  • Troubleshoot technical issues in real time, providing clear direction to talent and crew

  • Operate switcher, audio, and robotics; assist with floor directing as needed

  • Execute breaking news cut-ins, live transitions, and complex timing scenarios

  • Ensure consistent broadcast quality across audio, video, and overall presentation

  • Monitor on-air signals and manage playlist execution and feed routing

  • Ensure proper recording and routing of feeds for syndicated programming and live events

  • Verify and adjust broadcast logs and playlists to maintain continuity

  • Execute live event transitions, including “join in progress” scenarios

  • Maintain quality control for audio, video, and closed captioning

  • Ensure compliance with FCC regulations and station standards

  • Partner with Engineering and Operations teams to resolve technical issues efficiently

  • Coordinate between Production and Master Control for seamless on-air transitions

  • Collaborate with News, Creative Services, and Engineering on graphics, live shots, and media readiness

  • Communicate effectively with the Production Manager regarding workflows and operational needs

  • Mentor and support team members across control room and Master Control functions

  • Contribute creative and technical ideas to elevate production quality and efficiency

  • Identify and implement workflow improvements across operations

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4–5+ years of senior level experience in live broadcast operations

  • Strong expertise in either Production/Directing or Master Control, with willingness to cross-train

  • Proficiency with automation systems (e.g., Sony ELC) and/or Master Control platforms (e.g., Evertz Mediator or similar)

  • Advanced knowledge of control room operations (switcher, audio, robotics) and/or Master Control workflows (playlisting, routing, signal monitoring)

  • Experience directing streaming productions (e.g., Tricaster) is a plus

  • Proven ability to execute complex live broadcasts with accuracy and reliability

  • Strong decision-making skills in high-pressure, on-air environments

  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring abilities

  • Excellent communication, organization, and multitasking skills

  • Proficiency with standard computer applications (Microsoft Office)

  • Varied shifts, OT, weekends and holidays

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $31.25-36.06 per hour. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
