Senior On-Call Environmental Planner and Project Manager

Location: Seattle, Portland, or Remote (Washington, Oregon, or Idaho)

Are you passionate about natural resources and environmental planning? Join our Pacific Northwest Environmental Planning Team as a Senior On-Call Environmental Planner and Project Manager! In this dynamic role, you’ll collaborate with a talented group of professionals—including wildlife biologists, aquatic resource experts, conservation planners, restoration ecologists, and regulatory specialists—to support forestry projects and environmental reviews across the region.

About the Role

You will lead and manage forestry projects focused on forest health, fuels management, timber harvest, and related land management activities, focusing on planning and environmental compliance. Your responsibilities will include preparing state and federal permit applications, conducting technical studies, and advising clients on complex forest planning and environmental issues. You’ll also play a key role in staying up-to-date on forestry policy, agency priorities, and industry best-practices for implementation. Our current projects are primarily in Washington and Oregon, with opportunities to contribute to work in California, Idaho, Alaska, and beyond. Work from our Seattle or Portland offices or choose full-time remote flexibility.

What You’ll Do

  • Direct and manage forestry projects from start to finish.

  • Provide expert guidance on SEPA, NEPA, and relevant case law.

  • Stay informed about evolving forestry policies, agency initiatives, funding opportunities, and industry standards.

  • Communicate clearly and write compelling technical documents.

  • Balance multiple projects, deadlines, and budgets effectively.

  • Build and nurture strong relationships with clients.

  • Support proposal efforts by writing technical scopes of work and cost estimates.

What You Need to Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Environmental Planning, Biology, Ecology, Forestry, or related field.

  • 8+ years of experience in environmental consulting, forestry, or related field with a focus on forestry and environmental compliance.

Additional Experience or Skills

  • MS or PhD in Environmental Science, Environmental Planning, Biology, Ecology, Forestry, or a related field.

  • Experience collaborating on interdisciplinary teams to complete NEPA for forestry projects.

  • Proficient in reviewing technical studies related to biological resources, cultural resources, air quality, noise, traffic, and hydrology.

  • Familiarity with federal, state, or Tribal land management agencies.

  • Direct involvement in developing and implementing forestry projects.

  • Advanced knowledge of environmental planning and forestry.

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent project management abilities, including organization and time management.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for engaging with clients, the public, and government officials.

  • Demonstrates a strong work ethic and thrives in collaborative environments.

  • Committed to producing high-quality work while effectively managing budgets and deadlines.

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.

The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is:

$98,614.00 - $167,644.00
