Senior Offshore Recovery Electrical Engineer

Cape Canaveral, Florida Full Time

At Relativity Space, we’re building rockets to serve today’s needs and tomorrow’s breakthroughs. Our Terran R vehicle will deliver customer payloads to orbit, meeting the growing demand for launch capacity. But that’s just the start. Achieving commercial success with Terran R will unlock new opportunities to advance science, exploration, and innovation, pioneering progress that reaches beyond the known.

Joining Relativity means becoming part of something where autonomy, ownership, and impact exist at every level. Here, you're not just executing tasks; you're solving problems that haven’t been solved before, helping develop a rocket, a factory, and a business from the ground up. The most meaningful work of your career is waiting. Join us.

About the Team:

The Offshore Recovery team is responsible for designing, building and operating the maritime vessels used to land and recover the Terran R launch vehicle. This isn’t your standard desk job. We are a lean, fast-moving team who cover the full project lifecycle – beginning with system requirements definition and design, hands-on with build and activation in the shipyard, all the way through supporting critical offshore recovery missions at sea. We collaborate with teams across the company, including Terran R designers, launch pad builders and rocket engine testers!

About the Role:

  • End-to-End Ownership: Lead the development of onboard power systems for the recovery vessel, from design through build, sea trials, certification, and offshore mission support.
  • Broad Scope: Provide engineering support for electrical systems, including low-voltage control systems, ground systems, and telemetry systems.
  • Offshore Operations: Support offshore recovery campaigns by helping ensure systems operate safely and effectively during landing and recovery missions.
  • Next-Generation Builds: Apply lessons learned from initial recovery platforms to future designs and improvements.
  • Team Development: Contribute to establishing strong engineering and operational practices as the recovery team grows.

About You:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in engineering or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in electrical power systems development, integration, or support.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply engineering fundamentals to solve complex technical problems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across technical and operational teams, including coordination with contractors and suppliers.
  • Willingness and ability to travel approximately 25% of the time, with potential for additional travel or non-standard work hours based on project needs.

Nice to haves but not required:

  • Experience with low-voltage control systems and/or RF systems.
  • Familiarity with marine regulatory and certification standards (e.g., USCG, ABS, DNV, or similar).
  • Experience with multi-bus power architectures or fault-tolerant systems.
  • Experience supporting vessel construction, retrofit, or shipyard operations.
