Key Position Details:

  • 1.0 FTE (80-hours per 2-week schedule)
  • 8-hour day shifts
  • No weekends
  • Partially remote role with monthly meetings onsite at the Allina Commons plus some travel is needed for site visits and observations at our hospitals and clinics.

Job Description:

Nursing Informatics is the specialty that integrates nursing science with multiple information and analytical sciences to identify, define, manage and communicate data, information, knowledge and wisdom in nursing practice. Nursing Informatics supports the company’s vision for Whole Person Care through the pursuit of maintaining and improving the information systems in a manner that is reliable and unobtrusive, preserving and promoting the therapeutic relationship. This role supports effective clinical and information systems by leading the system assessment and evaluation through collaboration with stakeholders. As well as provides coaching and leadership support to the other members of the Nurse Informatics team.

Principle Responsibilities

  • Clinical and information systems
    • Provides support to patient care and operational areas in identifying, developing, implementing, and maintaining efficient, effective clinical information and operational systems.
    • Actively seeks opportunities to assess and evaluate systems and effectiveness for end-users as it relates to ease of use, alignment with nursing practice and promotion of positive patient care outcomes.
    • Performs data analysis on performance and utilization of alerts, order sets, and patient outcomes to evaluate effectiveness of interventions and opportunities for optimization. Develop reports, spreadsheets, and databases using a variety of tools using data from multiple sources.
    • Participates in the development, implementation and ongoing operation and optimization of clinical decision-making systems and processes and information systems that support effective, efficient, safe, timely, equitable and patient-centered care.
  • Performance Improvement
    • Utilizes the vision of whole person care, the principles of high reliability, and the nursing model of relationship-based care to shape future/ideal state designs.
    • Coaches/Leads informatics improvement projects under direction of the Nurse Informatics Lead and the Director of Nursing Informatics.
    • Leads projects pertaining to organizational goals and strategies and regulatory requirements.
    • Designs and refines team analysis processes and improvement tools in collaboration with the team.
    • Evaluates usability and end-user solutions.
    • Provides consultative informatics services to clinical and operational team members.
    • Utilizes change management principles to support humans through the change process and the improvements and coaches team members in their change management practice.

    • Communicates concepts and ideas in a way that matches the audience’s level of understanding.
    • Chooses appropriate communication methods and coaches and mentors teammates.
    • Promotes candor and diverse opinions.
    • Delivers tough messages with respect and care.
    • Uses positive influence to build a broad base of support for change.
  • Compliance and Confidentiality
    • Follows relevant compliance regulations, guidelines and policies related to documentation and billing in daily work activities.
    • Meets requirements for annual compliance education.
    • Understands the importance of maintaining the confidentiality of the content and medical record.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing
  • 5+ years direct care nursing, inpatient or ambulatory
  • Experience leading and managing large projects. Enterprise-wide project experience, change management


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree/Advanced Degree in Nursing, Health Care Administration, Business, Leadership or Public Health
  • 5+ years experience in informatics. Role in informatics/analyst within IS, Quality, or Clinical program


Licenses/Certifications

  • Licensed Registered Nurse - MN Board of Nursing required
  • Nursing Informatics-Willing to work towards preferred
  • EPIC Certification preferred

Pay Range

Pay Range: $45.40 to $62.82 per hour

The pay described reflects the base hiring pay range. Your starting rate would depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience, education, and the union agreement (if applicable). Shift, weekend and/or other differentials may be available to increase your pay rate for certain shifts or work.
