Position Summary:
We are seeking a Senior Network Engineer — Core Networking & MA&D to serve as a technical leader responsible for the design, integration, and optimization of Cencora's backbone, data center, and cloud network environments. This role is central to our corporate development strategy: you will lead the network workstream for acquisitions (integrating newly acquired entities into our enterprise environment) and divestitures (cleanly carving out network services and infrastructure). The ideal candidate combines deep routing/switching expertise with the structured, project-driven mindset required to execute high-stakes network transitions on aggressive timelines.
Primary Focus
Advanced core network design, MA&D network integration/separation, complex troubleshooting, and cross-functional technical leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
Core Network Engineering:
Design and implement large-scale, highly available network solutions spanning backbone WAN, data center fabrics (spine/leaf, VXLAN/EVPN), and cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
Own routing architecture across the enterprise — BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS, and segment routing — ensuring optimal path selection, convergence, and redundancy.
Perform advanced troubleshooting of complex Layer 2/3 issues, including root cause analysis across multi-vendor, multi-domain environments.
Manage capacity planning for backbone and data center interconnects; model growth scenarios and recommend upgrades to meet evolving business needs.
Evaluate and test emerging technologies — SD-WAN overlays, cloud-native networking (Transit Gateway, Azure vWAN), network automation/orchestration, and intent-based networking — for adoption into the core.
Document and maintain high-level and detailed network designs, including redundancy, failover, and disaster-recovery strategies.
Mergers, Acquisitions & Divestitures (MA&D):
Lead the network workstream for each MA&D event end-to-end — from due diligence through Day 1 cutover to steady-state hand-off.
Conduct technical discovery & assessments of target/divested company networks: inventory infrastructure, map IP address spaces, identify overlapping RFC 1918 ranges, catalog circuits, and evaluate security postures.
Develop integration blueprints that define how acquired networks will be absorbed into Cencora's backbone, data center, and cloud environments — including IP re-addressing/NAT strategies, DNS consolidation, routing policy merges, and identity/segmentation alignment.
Architect divestiture carve-out plans that cleanly separate shared network services, circuits, firewall policies, and cloud tenancies while maintaining operational continuity for both entities through the Transition Services Agreement (TSA) period.
Coordinate circuit provisioning and decommissioning — working with carriers, colocation providers, and cloud service providers to stand up or tear down connectivity on schedule.
Manage cutover execution — build detailed migration run-books, lead change windows, and orchestrate cross-functional war-room activities for Day 1 network transitions.
Mitigate risk by designing interim-state architectures (e.g., temporary VPN tunnels, NAT boundaries, shared firewalls) that allow phased integration or separation without disrupting production traffic.
Leadership & Collaboration:
Collaborate cross-functionally with Security, Systems/Server, Cloud, Application, and Identity teams to ensure seamless integration during both BAU operations and MA&D events.
Partner with Project Management and Corporate Development to align network milestones with broader deal timelines, budgets, and business commitments.
Develop and enforce network policies and standards, ensuring compliance with Cencora security and regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA, SOX).
Mentor and guide Level 1 and Level 2 network engineers; serve as the technical escalation point for complex incidents.
Drive automation of repeatable MA&D tasks — templatized configurations, automated compliance checks, scripted IP migrations — to accelerate future integrations.
Education, skillset and experience requirements:
7+ years in enterprise network engineering with significant time operating backbone, data center, and/or cloud network infrastructure.
Demonstrated participation in at least 2–3 network integration or carve-out projects (M&A, divestiture, or large-scale migration equivalents).
Expert-level knowledge of BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VXLAN/EVPN, spanning-tree, and multicast in multi-vendor environments (Cisco, Arista, Juniper, Palo Alto, etc.).
Hands-on experience with modern data center fabrics, interconnects (DCI), and colocation environments.
Working knowledge of at least one major cloud provider's networking stack (AWS VPC/TGW, Azure vNET/vWAN, GCP VPC
Experience with network automation tools and languages — Ansible, Terraform, Python, or equivalent.
Advanced certification preferred: CCNP/CCIE, Advanced Networking, or equivalent.
Strong leadership, project coordination, and communication skills; comfortable presenting to technical and non-technical stakeholders, including corporate development and executive leadership.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in pharmaceutical distribution, healthcare, or other regulated industries
Familiarity with Transition Services Agreements (TSAs) and the operational constraints they impose on network timelines.
Hands-on experience with network segmentation and zero-trust architectures in the context of integrating untrusted acquired environments.
Exposure to ITSM/change management frameworks (ITIL, ServiceNow) in large enterprise settings.
Working knowledge of network monitoring and observability platforms
