Job Summary

As M&G advances its Cloud Only strategy and transitions away from legacy infrastructure support models, there is a critical need for strong experienced Senior Network Engineer.

Overview
We are seeking a part‑time Network Engineer with strong technical design capability, deep low‑level understanding of network technologies, and proven experience supporting operational networks. The role requires excellent documentation skills and the ability to manage and guide support teams. This position is critical in delivering accurate technical designs, resolving complex issues, and maintaining operational stability across our firewall, routing, and switching platforms during ongoing network transformation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce high‑quality technical and low‑level network designs, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and alignment with engineering and architectural standards.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting and operational support across Palo Alto firewalls, Cisco switches, routing protocols, VPNs, and security services.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex incidents, including BGP routing issues, firewall policy interactions, and site‑to‑site/third‑party VPN behaviours.
  • Manage and coordinate support teams, ensuring effective escalation handling, workload management, and timely resolution of operational issues.
  • Lead or support complex network implementation activity, including validation, pre‑cutover readiness, live change execution, and post‑change stabilisation.
  • Produce clear, comprehensive, and reusable documentation covering designs, configurations, troubleshooting steps, processes, and operational procedures.
  • Support continuous improvement across network operations, ensuring consistent application of best practices and technical governance.

Skills & Experience

  • Strong hands‑on expertise with Palo Alto firewalls and Cisco switching platforms.
  • Deep low‑level technical knowledge of routing (BGP), VPNs, firewall behaviour, and network security.
  • Proven experience producing detailed technical designs and configuration documentation.
  • Demonstrated management capability, including supporting, guiding, and coordinating engineering/support teams.
  • Experience delivering or supporting complex implementations and high‑risk network migrations.
  • Excellent written documentation, analysis, and communication skills.

Working Pattern

  • 3 days per week, with flexibility to support planned change windows and operational peaks.
  • 9‑month fixed‑term role
