The Opportunity:

Seeking an experienced Naval Architect to perform design and analysis of new and existing ships and ship systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop and analyze new ships and ship system concepts.

  • Develop complex designs for current and conceptualized ships, systems, and equipment. Use design software to prepare plans, drawings, and analytical models. Evaluate designs for feasibility.

  • Analyze critical elements or performance of the design using analytic tools, model scale and full scale testing, or prototyping as appropriate. Prepare reports of results and conclusions. Recommend and implement changes to designs based on conclusions.

  • Identify and apply regulatory and customer standards, commercial and military standards, as well as classification society rules, to ship designs and modifications.

  • Provide guidance and feedback on designs and drawings produced by junior engineers.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or an engineering field related to ship design

  • 7+ years of experience in ship design and arrangements

  • Experience working with ship system performance assessment and prediction methods, especially utilizing computer assisted design (CAD) and computer aided engineering (CAE) software in the design process.

  • Strong organization and time management skills.

  • Good interpersonal skills to work with project teams and stakeholders.

  • Must be a US citizen and have ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

  • Skills in Microsoft Office.

  • Good written and verbal (English) communication skills.

Desired:

  • Master's Degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or an engineering field related to ship design

  • 12+ years of experience in US Navy surface ship design

  • Expertise in US Navy or USCG ship design integration and General Arrangements

  • Ability to create or edit 2D drawings in AutoCAD and 3D models using Rhinoceros or AutoCAD

There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications. The proposed salary range for this position is:

$90,300-$189,600
