Position Summary: We are looking for a Senior MLOps Platform Engineer to join the Analytics & AI division at athenahealth in Bangalore. This role is part of the growing MLOps Engineering team focused on designing, building, and scaling cloud-native infrastructure and Kubernetes platforms that power machine learning and analytics workloads. The ideal candidate will bring strong backend and platform engineering expertise with hands-on experience in Python, Kubernetes, and public cloud platforms, preferably AWS. This role offers the opportunity to build scalable, secure, and reliable infrastructure that supports advanced analytics and AI capabilities across athenahealth’s ecosystem.
About the Team: The Analytics & AI team at athenahealth leverages large-scale healthcare data to deliver intelligent insights and data-driven solutions. The Platform Engineering team builds the foundational infrastructure, automation frameworks, and cloud-native services that enable scalable machine learning, analytics, and MLOps capabilities. Team members collaborate closely with data science, DevOps, and engineering organizations to improve operational efficiency, platform reliability, and innovation across athenahealth’s AI and analytics ecosystem.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Design, implement, and scale cloud-native infrastructure and platform services supporting analytics and machine learning workloads
Build backend services, automation frameworks, and operational tooling using Python
Deploy, manage, and optimize Kubernetes clusters and containerized workloads for production-scale environments
Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation
Ensure platform reliability, scalability, security, and operational readiness across cloud-native environments
Partner with data science, DevOps, and engineering teams to support ML deployment pipelines and platform enablement
Contribute to technical architecture discussions, agile ceremonies, sprint planning, and engineering best practices
Additional Job Responsibilities:
Improve observability, monitoring, logging, and alerting systems across platform environments
Optimize platform performance, infrastructure efficiency, and operational reliability
Support CI/CD pipeline enhancements and cloud-native deployment automation initiatives
Promote platform engineering standards, operational best practices, and scalable architecture patterns
Mentor junior engineers and support knowledge sharing within the engineering organization
Collaborate on cloud security, service mesh, and infrastructure governance initiatives
Contribute to continuous improvements in MLOps tooling and machine learning infrastructure operations
Expected Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
4–9 years of experience in backend engineering, platform engineering, or cloud infrastructure roles
Strong programming expertise in Python
Hands-on experience managing and optimizing Kubernetes clusters and workloads
Experience with cloud infrastructure platforms, preferably AWS and Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation
Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines, containerization, cloud-native architectures, and observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, and CloudWatch
Familiarity with Kubeflow, service mesh technologies like Istio, and databases such as Snowflake, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Redis is a plus
